Hello! Is anyone else trying local AI? Im dont know what im doing but lately ive been trying "Llama 3,2 3b instruct q5km" on my phone and its been surprisingly good.

Its to replace using central ai for basic tasks like text editing, analysis and brainstorming.

If you have Mac, you might check out this app: blaizzy.github.io/nativ/

i think the best you can get right now is qwen 3.8 27B. youre gonna need 24 gigs of some fast memory though, i heard theres decent quantizations that can also make it run on 16. im quite excited about open/local models, but theres big investment overhead with the prices right now

You might be able to try out colibri, its quite good and the models are a bit better. I am unable to connect any of the cli agents to do things with it though, probably due to context limits, but try it out. OlMoe is the lightest

what's everyone's favorite show? I'll go first; The Young Pope!

I just realized watching TV series/movies is also something I dropped in the context of It's partly filled with Youtube, admittedly with some slop allowed in.

Not sure, maybe Prince of Tennis

Anyone know how to get the projects view back on codex? It changed from project categorization to date categorization.

Nvm. There's a little bell icon on the top right of the sidebar which let's you switch between project and activity views.

Anyone read Neil Postman?

I just google it and now I feel like I have to read it

Do you have a recommended starting point?

…

haven't read him but i see his "Technopoly: The Surrender of Culture to Technology" referenced a lot lately

Started reading exactly that and man it's mind-blowing. He's not anti-tech, he's anti big-company-culture-capture. Really insightful for being written in 1998. What I appreciate is he looks at a very wide view of tech, not just modern silicone.

How old is textlog?

Well, this looks like a lovely place.

hello! welcome :)

setting up some of my workflows based on this writeup - ludwigabap.com/…/on-my-personal-…of-the-tools-i-use/ Particularly a big fan of zellij amongst others Also venturing into having agents enable more of my work - let us see how that goes.

I think more than 50% of our economy's businesses, are cosplaying. Not in it for customers or profit; in it for investors and investments. "Looking like a business", as your real line of work.

Like a very elaborate pump and dump but with an intellect and capital entry barrier

Influencing, OnlyFans, sports betting, prediction markets. Gambling is fast becoming the American way of life.

"Financial nihilism" is the keyword

I've never thought of something like OF as gambling. But I guess your point is that young adults are pushed to a lot of "you have a 0.1% chance of hitting it big and a 99.9% chance of getting no online traction at all" types of careers?

…

Yeah, no point in investing in yourself or a real sustainable long-term future, just gamble the little you have for a shot at life above the line. Barbell economy.

I know many small business owners, and a clear majority do have investors, whether spouse, parents, or a small business loan. Easily more than 50% never make a profit. I know a woman who ran a clothing retail store for over a decade, who was never able to pay herself a dime. When the pandemic hit, everyone closed, but the ones who actually needed the business to pay their bills opened up as soon as it was allowed or shortly thereafter. Many took years. They are cosplaying.

a business loan is not an investment, it is debt financing that pays back with interest. An investment means putting money into a company to gain ownership or a share of future profits. to me it feels like youre arguing against cosplaying, showing small businesses struggle and arent just playing boss for the funzies.
