Hi ! First post : What do we win in the AI race ?

To understand the latest trends or related software or products, if you are interested or it is related to your own industry, you can learn about and study them.Whether you use it for work or just as a hobby, you can give it a try. I guess.just study.

I’ve had quite the successful day cooking today: make a Dutch baby for breakfast with blueberries, a bean stew for lunch using up all the week’s odds and ends, make a coffee and walnut cake, and barbecued/slightly smoked a whole spatchcocked chicken for the first time!

Recently hit 10+ years (cumulative) of being a software engineer. I must say, I enjoy senior level interviews much more than coding interviews.

Being interviewed or interviewing?

…

replied to:

Yeah, got through some interviews earlier this week. Waiting on responses.

replied to:

i'm always anxious and i stutter when i get an interview, which lately has been none hence i have time to build things like this site

Longer answer: My editor does not start wars. I use whatever is convenient. Most of the time I am on visual studio code but I'll use anything. Well, anything except emacs I guess. I don't think I have ever actually used emacs.

i recently finished hemingways "the old man and the sea". very highly recommend for anybody that wants something short and memorable. left me feeling something between inspired and nihilistic

This strangely reminded me of golden days of Twitter. There was a point I absolutely love Twitter. This is also a reminder for me to pick up a book instead of reading a load of random stuff online. Thank you!

I think I may be use this for now to spill out my guts a bit. Set out boundaries guys. I was basically ignoring how important that is, whatever is at work, family, relations. Be loved being you, you don't have to meet any expectations beyond yours.

replied to:

Exactly. Whoever likes it. If they respect you they'll stick around, if not, you don't need them.

Cheer to that mate!!. Wish I acknowledge before everything started to get messy. but we grow, we learn, we live and we put money on therapy.

Genuinely, I’m grateful we have such great choices when it comes to programming languages.

It’s just sad the whole corporate world runs on Java, Python, C++, C#, and JavaScript so I just look in envy at what I could be using

You delete a file on Linux while a program has it open. What happens?

Testing this quiet corner of the web. I collect small notes about everyday tools file formats, tiny utilities, offline workflows. First post is just a hello; longer notes will follow once I settle in. Plain text feels good after years of heavy editors.

replied to:

Hey that's interesting... I have an interest in plain text markup languages and tools and stuff. Feels like an overlap. :)

replied to:

I’d love to hear also about these workflows. Welcome!

I think a trusted piece of software such as your operating system should be in charge of managing permissions. For example, I believe with Wayland on gnome you no longer need to promise you aren't secretly taking screenshots of the whole monitor and shipping it somewhere because to do that Wayland requires you to get user permission.

replied to:

I was thinking along the same line, but then if it is not a gated system - there’s always ways for software to sidestep these - just going down to a lower level. The other issue I have is if the system or software asks or notifies all the time - for every tiny user action!

replied to:

I have tiktok and instagram on this phone and both of them have no notification permissions. I'd rather miss all notifications for these apps than be bothered unnecessarily. it can wait until I open the app 🤣 yes, it should be gated in the sense studying locally needs to be root, not in the sense that the apple app store or Google play store reviewers need to review each update.
