I've been on a kick lately of trying to visualize the oscillating clock, and ultimately the effectively arbitrarily complex activity of a computer processor, as modern refinements of the line shaft factory of the 19th century. Of compute as being not much more than profoundly refined "work" delivered by the electrical grid into marvelously complex machines.
Does that, as a metaphor at least, feel as important to you as it has to me of late? We spend so much time in a world abstracted.
I truly love the experience of using apps with rich, deeply interactive, beautifully animated, gorgeous user interfaces.
Then I see a beautiful text-based interface and something about it feels so natural, so inevitable, so perfectly clear, and I'm instantly captivated by its simplicity and clarity.
Hypertext is fascinating.
"If you don't think of yourself years ago as an idiot... Perhaps it is because you still are one."
In that spirit I started to write down my own thoughts. I think I am meant to call it a blog. Years from now I can read my old words and cringe at them.
