So much present tense in generated prose. Terse, authoritative sentences, without breathing room, without hesitation or qualification. It jumps off the page, and not in a good way.

What about the lack of density to paragraphs, the length of the sentences, or the confidence and determinism of their direction? Conviction with no limits. So reliably repetitive that you start seeing patterns as if you are looking and reading a record player with some scratches on it. Skips. Squeaks. Repeats. Yet. It gets the job done.

But if I am to read, discern meaning, analyze choices of diction and structure, consider the context both of the author and the audience, and finally derive value from the written word, then generative falls short on many levels. Maybe what I messaged read as a disagreement and mentioning that they get the job done was actually not about producing prose (of any quality). I wholeheartedly agreed and still agree with you. Getting the job done was more about producing output - be it some prose, images, videos, software, whatever. They do generate output. It is not to say that the output is meaningful or meaningless. Some souls do enjoy it. Some others - don’t. I did start with a question though.

Started reading exactly that and man it's mind-blowing. He's not anti-tech, he's anti big-company-culture-capture. Really insightful for being written in 1998. What I appreciate is he looks at a very wide view of tech, not just modern silicone.

"Sharing economy" once meant something. You'd Uber someone B→C when already driving A→B→C→D; you'd AirBNB your home when vacationing and stay at someone else's home who was doing the same. No driving just for Uber; no houses just for AirBNB. I fear this history will be forgotten.

Agree, it was once like that. But a very long time ago and for very short period of time. Then, capitalism did its tricks.

My hometown is a popular tourist destination and we no longer can rent apartments on a year-basis. Everything is AirBnB and they only rent them to locals pretty expensive and off-season. As a local I can't live in my hometown anymore, so I'm staying in the mountains.

Been working on an old mastodon hosting project I tried to start a few years ago, with a focus on privacy. This is the first big project I've tried to come back to with the help of coding agents and find it invigorating, and gives me the confidence to actually finish the project. Who knows if it will ever make a dollar, but it sure is fun to watch my ideas come to life.

Determine what matters most and make a list of the no more than 7 things. Do one thing well at a time, top down. Reprioritise as you learn more. Notes:

If you half-arse a task and decide that'll do, it's evidence it wasn't the right priority. Learn.
Any sort of productivity, multi-tasking, app, solution type thing is a scam or a money grab and isn't needed.
People tend to remember 7 things well, but struggle with longer lists and particularly fail to remember things in the middle.
