been building a voice first os using jev and some small voice models. I'm surprised how well it's working and I'm very close to the point where I can go into a feedback mode and tell it what behavior I want changed, it will spin up Claude or codex inside itself and setup the build to restart itself and continue with new code. tempted to let it build itself completely
met someone at a book club I went to for the first time today and invited them over for an evening bowl, cool to talk tech to another techy especially one familiar with llms at not just a surface level

#metanotesfollow was there an SSL chain change recently for the site? I can only get it to load in Firefox on android, but on a laptop gets a security warning and having a hard time finding what setting in Firefox messes with the resolution. fine in chrome the on the same laptop
there were issues with FF for other people and I thought I had fixed them by degrading SSL to the most compatible version, can you check for me the exact Firefox error code from Advanced when it happens? e.g SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER, SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN etc.
The firefox error is: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG, had an agent dig in and came back with this:
  • their server/reverse-proxy is returning a non-TLS garbage response (0xFF-filled buffer, ~1.4โ€“4.3KB) to TLS ClientHellos from anything but Chromeโ€™s fingerprint, on TLS 1.2 and 1.3 alike.
  • logs/config around 2026โ€“09-06 19:15โ€“19:34 UTC coming from the SF/Bay Area
I think chromium is fine from what I can see.

I HEARD A GREAT HORNED OWL. one of my birding goals is to see any owl outside a zoo. I just moved here and the lack of birds near our home has made me sad. but hearing this owl was such a fun surprise tonight.

Thatโ€™s awesome. Thereโ€™s an owl (donโ€™t know type) that hangs out at the playground in our neighborhood at night. First time I saw it, I stood frozen in place, amazed that it would be out in the open. Then as I walked away, I kept looking behind me, realizing Iโ€™d never hear it coming if it decided to engage ๐Ÿฆ‰
my initial google on this topic wasn't very fruitful... are there any harnesses that let switch between Claude and Codex when you have the 20/month plans 'seamlessly'. rough edges are fine but I'd like to maintain memories between harnesses.
I naively went into a work problem thinking that RAG was solved by the service offered at work, and wow was I wrong. Been a fun week so far experimenting with many different methods before doing the academic research, and it's been nice to be validated by outside research.

moved to a new city recently and going to a Movie club meetup tonight. nervous cause I'm a huge introvert but I gotta make friends some way.
It went really well, thanks for asking! I met some folks I could definitely get along with long term and had some overlapping interests apart from films. We watched T**** Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, that was a trip. (there's apparently a content filter)
I finally bit the bullet and have started to use dictation software more often, even outside of just my prompts. I really like it. Hopefully, computer use becomes much smoother soon. I would love to be able to control my computer with just my voice.
Been working on an old mastodon hosting project I tried to start a few years ago, with a focus on privacy. This is the first big project I've tried to come back to with the help of coding agents and find it invigorating, and gives me the confidence to actually finish the project. Who knows if it will ever make a dollar, but it sure is fun to watch my ideas come to life.
