There is beauty in simplicity. Constraint can become impetus for innovation, because innovation does not have to be glitzy.

Word! It's a travesty that complexity seems to be lauded and rewarded over simplicity.

My favorite innovations in my own work -- and to be honest, I'd prefer to call them "discoveries" -- came from simplification. There's a beautiful moment when a stack of difficult, conflicting ideas collapse into a tighter, simpler structure.

I'm looking for a way to manage my bookmarks easily on desktop and Android. Anyone have any experience with software like that? It'd be nice to be able to tag or categorize pages, and maybe to keep local mirrors for certain ones. I'm open to self-hosting. Thanks for reading!

I truly love the experience of using apps with rich, deeply interactive, beautifully animated, gorgeous user interfaces. Then I see a beautiful text-based interface and something about it feels so natural, so inevitable, so perfectly clear, and I'm instantly captivated by its simplicity and clarity. Hypertext is fascinating.

After #exercisenotesfollow everything's awake and a good kind of sore. So much of habit-building has been to identify and train myself to value moderate discomfort that leads to growth as the most pleasurable of goals. Consistent spiritual efforts, healthy food and in proper amounts, minimum sleep quota, regular exercise a few times a weekโ€”all of these involve discomfort and force of will, but all of them enable growth and fulfillment.

Iโ€™m not supposed to take that literally of course, but I donโ€™t think software has such an important role in our lives, for most of us. Water, food, air. Those you canโ€™t live without. When it comes to software, I spend most of my workdays in the shell (vim, git, grep,โ€ฆ) and if $place allows in mutt+weechat (although thatโ€™s mostly outlook and teams). Nothing particularly new!

Personally, mise is more "try in hurry" compatible. So it stuck. I have tried devenv as it seems to greatly simplify the setup. However, I had to get something done in a hurry. Tried devenv (which I installed around the time they launched) and got stuck with a load of outdated nix IIRC. So I also gave a quick try with mise, got started with fnox and it was considerably easier to get going.

"Sharing economy" once meant something. You'd Uber someone Bโ†’C when already driving Aโ†’Bโ†’Cโ†’D; you'd AirBNB your home when vacationing and stay at someone else's home who was doing the same. No driving just for Uber; no houses just for AirBNB. I fear this history will be forgotten.

My hometown is a popular tourist destination and we no longer can rent apartments on a year-basis. Everything is AirBnB and they only rent them to locals pretty expensive and off-season. As a local I can't live in my hometown anymore, so I'm staying in the mountains.
