Putting a slide deck together (outside of work), despite agreeing with Tufte on this matter. I’ll also create a handout that tells the story better than the slides and deliver that, too, but was asked to produce a slide deck, and I think that’s part of the “effort theater.” Using Beamer for the slides, but not a theme that looks like Beamer because humans have eyes.

Spent months pair-building a full telecom BSS with an AI. The surprise wasn't the code — it was that the real job became verification. The AI read 450 tokens for every 1 it wrote. Turns out building honestly is mostly re-reading.

I'm employed again. Once again through someone I know and not through LinkedIn. Still not feeling productive and comfortable.

After a decent break, cannot not notice how much of my time I have to sell for a "traditional" job.

It is troubling watching the news today from the elections in Germany. Yes, it is democratic and absolutely fair elections and the people of Germany make their own choice in their situation. Still, seeing the far right gaining so much ground in Germany brings your thoughts some 90 years back. Let’s hope and pray Germany is not going there again.

I HEARD A GREAT HORNED OWL. one of my birding goals is to see any owl outside a zoo. I just moved here and the lack of birds near our home has made me sad. but hearing this owl was such a fun surprise tonight.

That’s awesome. There’s an owl (don’t know type) that hangs out at the playground in our neighborhood at night. First time I saw it, I stood frozen in place, amazed that it would be out in the open. Then as I walked away, I kept looking behind me, realizing I’d never hear it coming if it decided to engage 🦉

I wonder, is life best lived like a job? I.e set goals for yourself and then work to achieve them? Today I realised how passively I have been living mine so far, but maybe that's ok? I don't want a second job.

signals. thinking about shifting my mental framework to identify signals instead of waiting for concepts to be assembled. exploring the amount of energy and opportunities for distractions through the operations of processing what just happened and what is happening to short circuit latent and unnecessary systems. cut through the assembly processes and identify the raw signals. recognizing that naming these "raw signals" is misleading. maybe, shifting observability lower in the stack.
