Timestamps are now a preference in Appearance → Misc. Enjoy :) Make sure you edit your timezone afterwards from the profile settings so the hover detailed timestamp is correct.

But I hear you. I’ll make it an option and let people enable timestamps again. We can judge from usage after how many did it whether to make it default on.
