If I can't explain it back perfectly, I tend to avoid even trying. I sort of skip all the questions that come in between, because I can't answer them yet. It's an odd place, my head.

I think reading helps quite a bit, especially writing about what you’ve read, even to yourself, just so you can go through the process of having to explain something that you’re only recently familiar with. There’s something about that process that seems to be helpful, at least to me.
