Hello everyone! Just testing this out!

Hello, world

日本語話者はどれくらいいるんだろう。ここで日本語で書き込み続けるのはどうなんだろう

I wonder how many Japanese speakers there are. Is it okay to keep posting in Japanese here?

Hello World

こんにちは。はじめまして。

Hello. Nice to meet you.

ここで日本語で書き込み続けるのはどうなんだろうサイト作成者はさまざまの言語の話者が一緒に話せる場面にしたい気がする

I wonder if it's okay to keep posting in Japanese here. I get the feeling the site creator wants this to be a place where speakers of various languages can talk together.

Yes it’s fine, we have the “translate” feature now and most browsers also can translate a thread themselves.

now we have automatic translations!

Which Linux distribution do you like the most, and why? Follow the previous with your favourite desktop environment.

Same here except I landed on fedora with default gnome desktop. The old desktops I ssh into are Debian though. Edit: spelling fix I to -> into

That sounds good! :-)

Ubuntu or Linux Mint with Cinnamon and i3 alternating as window managers here

Arch Linux with KDE. I like that Arch comes with nothing and is pretty vanilla. No bloat, and customisable. No major upgrades where 5 things break at once. Install once, and it's fine until the device has to be replaced. Only then usually do a fresh install. It's up to date, still pretty boring, and you learn a bit in the process.

i distro hoped a lot. Finally i found my cozy home with debian with kde. 3 years still running without a problem all the software i use works perfectly and the games run smoothly.

…

Arch with i3, have been using it for like 7-8 years now. Started out at elementary os, really good and everything, but the thing where I dont need to install *-dev libs separately saves me a lot of time during compilations and building. Also, AUR is a life saver at times.

Dear alerts-that-interrupt-the-restarting-of-my-computer: haha the harassment filters in this site won't let me post what I think of thee

Heya folks!

I stopped interacting much with social media years ago and am honestly not sure how to do this any more… but I like the shape of what is starting here.

likewise. Its just nice to have an "even playing field" without any perceived hierarchy or weird material incentives to perform the way you'd be pushed to on regular SM.

agree, no images on my screen is soothing

Reminds me of the Kiwix offline Wikipedia "nopic" version. (I downloaded that version because it's much smaller than the full version that includes images.)

Images are fine for me, but should be behind a link, or a small thumbnail. Non-animated. Videos too. But that’s me. They will most likely have to be hosted elsewhere, while the thumb could be here. Nah. We are ok with just text.

Yeah, before you know it the feed becomes a collection of memes. Have to click or perhaps a browser extension that you personally see the opengraph/linked image in the feed but it's not inviting people to post them for the feed itself.

The strange thing about modern loneliness is that everyone is technically available.

🤯

Maybe validity to “distance makes the heart grow fonder.” Scarcity is valuable.

…

Too true.

Similar with having access to so much critically acclaimed media, but they are so emotionally or intellectually draining that I find myself rewatching ol' familiars. Availability seems just one aspect, and perhaps not even the most limiting factor. Maybe most people have a "limit" on number of "lives", as in number of times you fall in love, change, get inspired, connect, etc..

I never noticed the little halfsteps in the bassline of the verses of Rebel Yell before. It's so slinky and subconscious and makes the chorus that much more.

I'm just an android launcher called Nocebo Launcher. I don't have usual grid layout, instead I'm inspired by Darth Vader's TIE fighter. My layout can spin, like a real spinner and you can configure physics and animations. I'm easy, cool and novel

Any runners on here? I mostly consider myself a trail runner, but of course train on roads, too. Good for 1–2 races/year, more into running as a practice, a way to manage stress and stay fit.

5 min/km is pretty quick, as far as I'm concerned! My easy/forever pace is more like 8:30–9 min/mile right now.

Looking at the list of domain names bought over the years: Ah yes my idea graveyard.

Are you planning to let it all go?

Never, I'll slowly get around to building them.

Have recently consolidated my different chat apps (Signal, Slack, WhatsApp, Discord, Google Messages) into a single Matrix client + bridges - I'm 100% sold on Matrix.

You never tried IRC, did you? Good luck on Slomatrix! 😅

Well, I'm currently installing Windows 11, and I'm getting to the interesting part, where the TPM 2.0 processor chip can be replaced in software with a program called Rufus, and where the Windows 1125H ISO needs to be loaded onto a pendrive of at least 8 GB.
