Finally watched Project Hail Mary. Easily one of my top 5 favourite films but itโ€™s still not nearly as good as the book โ€” I feel like the cut some pretty important scenes

I loved the book and Iโ€™m always fearful when a movie script is developed and a movie produced, so my relief after I saw the movie was immense. I too feel theyโ€™ve cut-out some bits, but the main thing that a book almost always takes my breath away with is fueling my imagination. A movie would (possibly) never nail that aspect.

I just watched it as well. It was fun. There were a number of things that I felt weren't explained well and broke my suspension of disbelief; I haven't read the book, but I found myself really curious whether the book takes the time to justify things more. Obviously, the movie has a lot of pressure to rush to the next "big moment".

If thereโ€™s one thing Andy Weir canโ€™t be critiqued on then itโ€™s not fully justifying all of the science. I think the film on the other hand can be hard to follow for someone who has neither read the book nor has a scientific background. Itโ€™s just hard to monologue about gravitational forces and relativistic speeds on screen.

The shape of LLM tools as toolsโ€”fit for a purpose, ergonomicโ€”is becoming clearer, and human patterns of behavior with them that do more harm than good are also becoming easier to recognize.
code quality is about coupling. coupling is not a technical property of the code bytes. code acquires its meaning in contact with the cultural environment, and coupling is about meaning. two constants with no semantic relationship are nonetheless coupled in pragmatics if they refer to the same domain concept. if your goal is to minimise the time integral of future work, you must understand your domain: it decides which lines will need changing. to carve up a codebase is to carve up the world.

With deep respect we remember King Harald of Norway who passed away in the early hours of this morning. May his memory rest in peace. I knew token-based was more expensive but didnโ€™t imagine that much. Which is why u canโ€™t compete making alternative coding agents, their own subscriptions are much cheaper, but why they do it on their own Teams package is weird. Maybe targetting companies they feel they can pay.
