they too have every incentive to exaggerate because they are selling safety and/or books on the topic. I donโ€™t believe we wonโ€™t see it coming. Any issues that will manifest will be very visible and weโ€™ll have plenty of time to mitigate their impact.

they could be making a lot more money by just working at ai firms i fear. the thing that got me worried the hacking incidents lately, huggingface etc. if the capabilities consistently outspeed the development of safety measures, and if the private arms race logic continues, i dont think this is a good spot to be in long term

It's not clear, based on personal experience, how long - if it all - the software development field will value devs who actually enjoy the work. Most people I know are producing mostly AI work and there's an obvious skill decline that's resulted from it. 1/?
But does it matter if your boss doesn't care? Or if their boss doesn't care? If the paychecks keep coming who cares? What's the point of choosing the mountain if the "joy" just means more hours on screen that could have been spent elsewhere? 2/?
I got into doing dev work, because I thought it was fun to learn and do and I genuinely enjoyed hanging out with others who felt the same. Now, more than ever, I realize how few people feel the same. And, now - more than ever, I realize that no on cares if I feel that way. 3/?

being a student is great but the tasks are really quite boring. ive worked in academia now a little bit and its genuinely much more fun to work on something real, read papers, do experiments and write. It didnโ€™t work out, we found competition offering the same service for free so the #ideanotesfollow fell apart. Need to find something else to do as a side project to textlog. ๐Ÿ˜• Thinking of a code editor thatโ€™s focused on the new agentic workflows, so you have it on the side regardless of your agent tools and it monitors the git diff and offers a nice panorama view. Iโ€™ve done an extension for VSCode similar to this idea.

My favorite part of classic reddit was the use of elaborate hacks to circumvent the restrictions on custom subreddit CSS. E.g. animated gifs weren't allowed, so people made filmstrip sprites with stepwise animation in such a way as to look exactly the same.

ai coding feels like it has reached diminishing returns for me. luna is my default orchestrator, routing work by complexity. in practice, usage lands around 16% luna, 48% sol, 30% astra, and 6% terra. at this point, i care less about each new frontier release. the system already finds a capable model for the job. the frontier is moving beyond my day-to-day work, so iโ€™m happy to settle into predictable models for a while. #ainotesfollow #programmingnotesfollow #agentnotesfollow #technotesfollow

Iโ€™ve found the same, albeit with Opus โ€” itโ€™s hard to find uses for Fable. I donโ€™t need a model that works for longer or works on harder problems, I need one that consistently produces simple, easy to understand, code; which at this point none of them do.

I've been there since I settled on a combination of GLM, DeepSeek and MiMo for planning, implementation, and verification flows. I'm a lot more interested at this point in having cheaper models that can consistently do the work I need. It's been a while that I hanven't noticed any improvement when I try new frontier models. I only notice they are very expensive.

same here, for almost an year. At this point, I could easily live with models that were released 6-12 months ago and continue doing so. also possibly the reason why the current focus has been around agentic workflows or agentic anything, than the model capabilities.

Coding probably yeah, but still they are bad at generating novel information, new ideas and such. Theyโ€™re also not very good at seeing the bigger picture, they will narrowly perform the task but theyโ€™re not taking into account future revisions, which ends up in refactor after refactor in order to move forward.
