For example, I believe with Wayland on gnome you no longer need to promise you aren't secretly taking screenshots of the whole monitor and shipping it somewhere because to do that Wayland requires you to get user permission.

I was thinking along the same line, but then if it is not a gated system - there’s always ways for software to sidestep these - just going down to a lower level.
The other issue I have is if the system or software asks or notifies all the time - for every tiny user action!

Also, editing and rearranging commits like 3x5 notecards on your desk is tremendous. It makes using an SCM feel more like editing your work than lumbering forward.

It's not clear, based on personal experience, how long - if it all - the software development field will value devs who actually enjoy the work. Most people I know are producing mostly AI work and there's an obvious skill decline that's resulted from it. 1/?
But does it matter if your boss doesn't care? Or if their boss doesn't care? If the paychecks keep coming who cares? What's the point of choosing the mountain if the "joy" just means more hours on screen that could have been spent elsewhere? 2/?

Similar with having access to so much critically acclaimed media, but they are so emotionally or intellectually draining that I find myself rewatching ol' familiars. Availability seems just one aspect, and perhaps not even the most limiting factor. Maybe most people have a "limit" on number of "lives", as in number of times you fall in love, change, get inspired, connect, etc..

What about the lack of density to paragraphs, the length of the sentences, or the confidence and determinism of their direction? Conviction with no limits. Here's where we disagree.
Using these tools as part of the job, certainly. But if I am to read, discern meaning, analyze choices of diction and structure, consider the context both of the author and the audience, and finally derive value from the written word, then generative #ainotesfollow falls short on many levels.
If the "job" is to produce something no one was ever intending to engage with, then we have a more fundamental question about the value of the job.

Maybe what I messaged read as a disagreement and mentioning that they get the job done was actually not about producing prose (of any quality).
I wholeheartedly agreed and still agree with you.
Getting the job done was more about producing output - be it some prose, images, videos, software, whatever. They do generate output. It is not to say that the output is meaningful or meaningless. Some souls do enjoy it. Some others - don’t.
I did start with a question though.
