Do you code in silence or do you listen to music? If so, what kind of music do you prefer? Personally, I prefer Synthwave, vaporwave or the occasional country.

I have hallucinate.sitehallucinate.site playing all day. It has about 1100+ live 1-hour sets from #HÖR_Berlinnotesenter to follow playing randomly, when I don't like a set I change it but most of the time it's fine. It's #technonotesenter to follow.

Techno (and metal) coders are a special lot. I can't fathom trying to focus to that kind of intensity. But I know you're not alone, but I sure can't understand it ^_^

I think the intensity is satisfying my #ADHDnotesenter to follow, keeps my mind busy enough so then I can focus.

that tracks, vim’s giving your brain just enough friction to stop it from wandering.

Vim’s friction imho goes in the wrong way. Today I wanted to put slack thread link and give it pretty title “channel time”, it encodes both. 5 minutes later I press C-. s while point on the url and it’s done.
Vim will never be able to do that.

The vast majority of the time I prefer silence. Unlike @stagasprofileenter to followcreative technologist
creator of textlog, my #ADHDnotesenter to follow gets distracted with music. When I do listen to music, it has to be no vocals. I find #SpaceMusicnotesenter to follow, like Jonn Serrie, Brian Eno, and Steve Roach best for me.

I've never heard the term Space music but I am intrigued. I'll definitely check it out

Metalheads looking for something instrumental should check out Dhyana. A one-man doom metal project out of Louisiana. Heavy, rhythmic, and strangely meditative.
The older I get, the more coding/working I do in silence. Even then the music tends to be instrumentals or beats vs anything with lyrics

I'm almost always listening to music when I'm doing heads-down work. Typically ambient, minimal house, jazz, sometimes classical. Vocals or complicated instrumentation makes it hard for me to focus.

Oh, and I'm often listening to The Lot Radio or NTS livestreams, if the DJs are playing music compatible with working.
i put on boiler room sets from youtube. always fun, occasionally switch over to watch people dancing, gets me a bit hyped up for work

I can also recommend #psychillnotesenter to follow genre, very meditative but not too boring, with a little rhythm, perfect for deep concentration.
