Using Linux hasn't really been fun lately, idk. Nobara, despite building on fedora breaks a lot, but overall the whole ecosystem is so damn inconsistent and fragmented. Not sure if I have gotten more sensitive to this over the years but all I want is a system that "just works" and feels good ๐Ÿ˜”

I was followed by @semperosprofilefollowPresbyter, husband, father, technologist, linguist, musician. here and wonder if this the one of ari fame? If so, Iโ€™m thankful for their work. Using ari โ€œon top ofโ€ goal make some things just a lot easier for me when Iโ€™m exploring some data products I need to understand. #programmingnotesfollow

Hi, yes, I develop ari. I'm so glad it's proven useful for you! Any feature requests or changes you'd like to see? I'm curious what bits of ari have made it easier for you to explore data, too. UI or #dataviznotesfollow additions keep tempting me, but I haven't settled on what I want there. If you have thoughts on that front, I welcome them.

The two main things I use are the duckdb support and of course the built-in resty client. Not needing to shell out to curl just makes life easier. I should probably add that Iโ€™m mainly prototyping and explore things that later eventually will be developed further by others in our organization, so using array langs where I donโ€™t need to type a lot is a big plus for me:) Iโ€™ll let you know if I need anything!

Thanks, thatโ€™s helpful. Those are the two things I use the most, too. One development tool I use frequently is the util.ac function (for โ€œauto-completeโ€) that takes a glob pattern and returns all the globals whose names match. I didnโ€™t want to make people have to define or update their Goal lib path, so in recent versions of ari Iโ€™ve been packaging all of the Goal libs and ari's into a libs FS that you can use with import.

There are many distractions. Much is way too verbose. A calm, quiet and โ€œdistraction lessโ€ experience suits me better. I am not sure my thoughts will fit in 280 characters, but letโ€™s try and see how far that goes.
Quebec City is pretty amazing. Excellent food, tons to see and do, surrounded by nature, mountains, islands. My kind of place.

Do you live there or are just visiting? I remember feeling so at home there as a kid. I never kept my French up so I don't think I could ever move there.

Visiting, for the first time. It's about a 9 hour drive from home so we've never made the trip, but so worth it. Went to Ile d'Orleans yesterday, just... so quiet and beautiful. Seems a bit of a paradise, haven't even made it up to the natl park(s) yet. My French is coming back a little each day, made it all the way through the coffee order just now :)
Been working on an old mastodon hosting project I tried to start a few years ago, with a focus on privacy. This is the first big project I've tried to come back to with the help of coding agents and find it invigorating, and gives me the confidence to actually finish the project. Who knows if it will ever make a dollar, but it sure is fun to watch my ideas come to life.

did they silently decrease the subscription limits on codex? (in addition to reintroducing the 5h limit?) subscription models suck so bad when they can just change the terms and make the product shittier.

Putting a slide deck together (outside of work), despite agreeing with Tufte on this matter. Watched the Daily Show bit about AI this week, my wife found the interview with the whistleblower guy really depressing. That interview dramatically undersold that all the sketchy hacking shit that's happening right now is coming from 1 company.
Bonnie Raitt stuck in my head, who, by some definition, is a nepo baby, but well before the term was coined. I think the problem is obv not family businesses, but a shrinking pool of opportunities for those without a prebuilt network to inherit (or buy).
