And yet, homes remain chronically under-managed. Cars have service records. Portfolios have dashboards. Homes have a junk drawer full of manuals and receipts. This leads to problems that degrade a home's value over time. Deferred maintenance snowballs from small issues to emergency repairs costing thousands. And the effort you *do* put into your about Maingetonmain.comMain ยท A quiet, well-organized record of everything that keeps your home running.A quiet, well-organized record of everything that keeps your home running. on LinkedIn yesterday. Tell us more! What apps are you operating?
This is for monitoring/poking agentic coding sessions while I'm not at my computer. So, typically Claude, Emacs, and an overmind process running my app locally in different panes of a tmux window.
Call me old fashioned, but instead of adopting one of the "agentic coding orchestration frameworks" that seem to basically be reinventions of tmux, I've been tweaking my tried-and-true tmux-oriented workflow to incorporate agentic coding harnesses in an ergonomic way. I'm currently still using Claude Code, but getting Pi-curious as local models advance.
I will be dead, and many years will pass after that, before local models are capable to match those of the big companies, unless their intended use is banal.
It seems like we've reached a point where mid-grade frontier models like Sonnet are good enough for most day-to-day tasks. And Sonnet-grade models are already runnable on the higher end of consumer hardware. In which case, I can imagine a workflow where local models serve as workhorses for implementing plans that you may bump up to e.g. Opus or Sol to produce.

Another surprise from Windows 11: in addition to the fact that its interface is much more annoying than Windows 10's, I now supposedly have to wait 10 days for the previous system to delete itself from the computer
weekend plans are:
  1. attend to the pending work that I am avoiding around home
  2. improve my understanding of using agents in claude code and codex cli
  3. dig into navier stokes equations from the first principles (I am excited for this)

My favorite part of classic reddit was the use of elaborate hacks to circumvent the restrictions on custom subreddit CSS. E.g. animated gifs weren't allowed, so people made filmstrip sprites with stepwise animation in such a way as to look exactly the same.
Inspired by two projects of github:schildep I start to explore what can be expressed in Lean and make coding agents implement and prove the implementation at the same time.
The two projects of github:schildep are "3d mesh intersection" and "multipolygon intersection". I can try "Voronoi diagram generation" as a starter.
I'm trying to construct an argument that LLMs are like a chess engine. People still play chess. But somehow this falls short.

Watched the Daily Show bit about AI this week, my wife found the interview with the whistleblower guy really depressing. That interview dramatically undersold that all the sketchy hacking shit that's happening right now is coming from 1 company.

some people do absolutely improve their work output (either amount or quality) with AI, but most people just resign all their critical thinking to the black box. if you cannot function at YOUR WORKPLACE without ai, chances are that, 99% of the time, you never was supposed to work there in the first place. #ainotesfollow #worknotesfollow #technotesfollow

Is this true? Sometimes, AI allows for socratic thinking, this is, the conversation with the machine allows the thinker to go further as the AI thorws ideas to the conversation. Many times, the AI reasoning is not good enough, but like a friend that says a funny think that sparks an idea, the AI can help our brain to see other possible paths. The AI doesn't need to be right to be helpful

that's only true if a) that "rubber ducky" entity is not leading the line of thinking down the wrong path, and b) the human thinker is actually doing the critical thinking, and not the machine. The latter is where my criticism of unbridled AI use is in this case, wherein the human becomes the rubber ducky instead of the other way around.

A problem I perceive is usage of AI to launder ignorance. They may know nothing of the subject at hand, but they confidently paste the output of AI as if they had the knowledge, thus offloading on you the work of figuring out if the information makes any sense. In many ways it emboldened the incompetent.
