i think theyre pretty cool. the tech market is too safe nowadays.
Totally, I'm glad they're at least trying something new (for Apple). It just underscores the general failure of imagination vibes I get from everything in tech nowadays. Most of the industry is breathlessly chasing a 20th century "golden age of scifi" vision of AI. And Apple's over there diligently trying to improve upon other companies' products from five years ago. At least no one's talking about the metaverse anymore.
yea its kind of sad how the design language has all converged to the same phones and laptops. 1990s/2000s tech had so much swag and fun with design, especially japanese brands. i like what nothing does, the uk smartphone brand. at least they have some identity. and yea the metaverse to my mind was just a meme eversince they introduced it, like I know exactly 0 ppl that own a vr headset, and im with the nerds here. just shows zuck is surrounded by yes men
and the little laptop doesn't have enough memory, so I originally bought this main terminal for programming, I don't know what I wanted to program with it anymore, but it hums like a data center, and if I upgrade it a little, the Gemma 4 LLM will be able to run on it screaming
This laptop doesn't matter anymore, poor thing, so much has happened to it, now Gemma 4 26B A4B QAT is being installed on it, according to the original plans, which may not have been our plans, but there's not much we can do about it, because we've become victims of circumstances

I still don't get how now after AI coding there's people saying that contrary to common belief code wasn't a bottleneck and I realized that when I was starting to code at 10yrs ago when I was 15 and read it in a stackoverflow comment. I thought that was the common belief and still can't believe a lot of supposed senior programmers apparently believed so.
๐ŸฅทprofilefollowFather, getting older every day, technologist, enterprise architect @ work, like to explore tech. Like to keep it simple and work in the shell, write in vim, prefer Debian if I have the choice. Plays saxophone and clarinet. Enjoy motorcycle riding, photography, hiking. Yes, code was never the bottleneck and of course now it never will be either. Figuring out semantic modeling of data that makes sense across business domains and figuring out the right way to use digitalization to modernize processes, and the change cultures as become possible through such work - thatโ€™s much more bottlenecks! Code is easy; people and process is hard!

It seems this year is when big budget LLM players overtake independent academic mathematicians, in speed at least. The Jacobian conjecture, a lot of Erdos problems, now even the Navier Stokes millenium problem. Solved due to new model releases, all within this summer.
profilefollowresearcher, developer, dancerreplied to๐Ÿคชprofilefollow:
in math it can definitely prove statements that havent been proven before. I dont think thats the big thing though since it also writes sentences nobody has ever written before and in software it can write programs that havent been written before. Its just that the speed and scalability that has overtaken human mathematicians and programmers

๐Ÿ’€profilefollowYour mind is also supposed to create happiness, not just to receive it. You're supposed to find solutions, to invent, to imagine, to remember, to love. This much we always forget.replied toprofilefollowI ain't no nothing!:
Nourish your heaf with creative thoughts and originality will happen on it's own. And don't be too hard on yourself, there's hardly anything new under the sun, the joy is in discovering things yourself :)
Maintenance of software/systems was a mere after thought in my experience. Adding new things made careers, bonuses etc. so there was no real incentives for maintenance. The article argues that LLMs will do it. I'll believe if and when I see it.
