I think a trusted piece of software such as your operating system should be in charge of managing permissions. For example, I believe with Wayland on gnome you no longer need to promise you aren't secretly taking screenshots of the whole monitor and shipping it somewhere because to do that Wayland requires you to get user permission.

I was thinking along the same line, but then if it is not a gated system - there’s always ways for software to sidestep these - just going down to a lower level. The other issue I have is if the system or software asks or notifies all the time - for every tiny user action!

I have tiktok and instagram on this phone and both of them have no notification permissions. I'd rather miss all notifications for these apps than be bothered unnecessarily. it can wait until I open the app 🤣 yes, it should be gated in the sense studying locally needs to be root, not in the sense that the apple app store or Google play store reviewers need to review each update.

Trying tsoding/tatr idea for task tracking in the project. Instead of his C implementation asked CC to implement tatr.el. I do similar thing with vulpea, even my org notes have timestamp ids. Tatr tasks live in the repo, which is good.

I'm not sure the world needs another static site generator, but I made one. get-taxus.org Giving the project some TLC this week, doing some bug squashing. If you want and SSG that doesn't fight you, give it a go.

I think short urls are still memorable and good. My phone doesn't surrogate all of my recall.

Short URLs are good. Memorable URLs are good. URLs spat out by URL shorteners are something entirely different.

The longer the text you need to store, the bigger a QR code needs to be in order to scan reliably. Also, you might be more confident in being able to keep a short URL stable (it's already a step of indirection, so if you want to reorg your site you can just update where the short URL points to). But people don't really take care to maintain short URLs anyway, apparently.

Images are fine for me, but should be behind a link, or a small thumbnail. Non-animated. Videos too. But that’s me. They will most likely have to be hosted elsewhere, while the thumb could be here. Nah. We are ok with just text.

Yeah, before you know it the feed becomes a collection of memes. Have to click or perhaps a browser extension that you personally see the opengraph/linked image in the feed but it's not inviting people to post them for the feed itself.

I feel icky about code generation (as in writing software to generate code).

Deterministic code generation is fine by me. Quite happy to use templating systems for example. Problems occur when randomness is introduced. If you can avoid that it should be less "icky".
