I've been on a kick lately of trying to visualize the oscillating clock, and ultimately the effectively arbitrarily complex activity of a computer processor, as modern refinements of the line shaft factory of the 19th century. Of compute as being not much more than profoundly refined "work" delivered by the electrical grid into marvelously complex machines. Does that, as a metaphor at least, feel as important to you as it has to me of late? We spend so much time in a world abstracted.

There is beauty in simplicity. Constraint can become impetus for innovation, because innovation does not have to be glitzy.

Word! It's a travesty that complexity seems to be lauded and rewarded over simplicity.

My favorite innovations in my own work -- and to be honest, I'd prefer to call them "discoveries" -- came from simplification. There's a beautiful moment when a stack of difficult, conflicting ideas collapse into a tighter, simpler structure.

Going to document some approaches to produce data visualizations using ari via DuckDB. Don’t know why it didn’t occur to me earlier, that there would be some solid community extensions for in DuckDB.

I was trying to use an approach that relies on community extensions, but installing them is proving finicky. Going to consider an approach that requires less futzing.

The essential work of is building the theory of the problem + solution. Theory then enables creation of working code. In the end, the code is necessary, but it is not sufficient. Theory is indispensable. (cf. Peter Naur, 1985)

Anyone on here fed up with their investment advisor? Interested to hear your frustrations.

We almost had one, but stopped after the main setup but before signing on. Wasn't convinced of the value. Seemed like they were just doing portfolio reallocation for a pretty penny. What are you experiencing?

Had one for ~8 years. Talked to them maybe 10 times, and they only ever did basic indexing w some tax loss harvesting. We should have just self managed.
