I took advantage of the time to implement a two-way synchronization between my calendar and my markdown note system (Emacs Howm). In return, my personal chatbot now has access to my schedule (not just my tasks). I have slightly modified the prompt sent to it by the systemd service that runs it, with the idea of making it more aware of this fact. I have also modified the morning briefing that the chatbot sends me. This briefing contains an analysis of the tasks I have during the day. It will now take into account tasks and schedule, thus helping me to prioritize better.

I guess the next step to improve my chatbot is to give it read permission, and only read permission, to email. Especially for those periods when email is piling up and you want someone to quickly tell you if there's anything relevant under the paperwork. An LLM that has access to the context of your work, tasks, and notes should have some ability to tell if an email is relevant or not. But those are figs from another basket and we'll leave them for another day.

It's cute because you have to put it in a sandbox right away (Virtualbox is a sandbox) so it doesn't mess up everything on the machine or the server or anywhere else, but these AI chatbots are basically peaceful little animals, right?

It seems this year is when big budget LLM players overtake independent academic mathematicians, in speed at least. The Jacobian conjecture, a lot of Erdos problems, now even the Navier Stokes millenium problem. Solved due to new model releases, all within this summer.

in math it can definitely prove statements that havent been proven before. I dont think thats the big thing though since it also writes sentences nobody has ever written before and in software it can write programs that havent been written before. Its just that the speed and scalability that has overtaken human mathematicians and programmers

Call me old fashioned, but instead of adopting one of the "agentic coding orchestration frameworks" that seem to basically be reinventions of tmux, I've been tweaking my tried-and-true tmux-oriented workflow to incorporate agentic coding harnesses in an ergonomic way. I'm currently still using Claude Code, but getting Pi-curious as local models advance.

It seems like we've reached a point where mid-grade frontier models like Sonnet are good enough for most day-to-day tasks. And Sonnet-grade models are already runnable on the higher end of consumer hardware. In which case, I can imagine a workflow where local models serve as workhorses for implementing plans that you may bump up to e.g. Opus or Sol to produce.
