This seems reasonable and motivates my bias. But I don't know what to believe anymore.

creator of textlog:For sure. We're well past the point of being able to reasonably claim that the tools have no practical use.
But I share the article's skepticism that LLM-based AI will "produce a fully automated drop-in replacement for most knowledge workers". Which it at this point has to in order to justify these companies' stupendous valuations.

creator of textlog:That's a different situation. Tesla's a public company whose valuation is driven by the market, which has the right to be irrational. My understanding is that the AI buildout is financed such that the companies need to turn a profit by ~2030 or else they drown in capital costs.

Or maybe the frontier labs become Tesla-like, if it turns out investors just want to believe in the dream and don't care about financials that don't make economic sense. I just don't see that happening, given current sentiment and the overwhelming unpopularity of AI in the West.

I think short urls are still memorable and good. My phone doesn't surrogate all of my recall.
The longer the text you need to store, the bigger a QR code needs to be in order to scan reliably.
Also, you might be more confident in being able to keep a short URL stable (it's already a step of indirection, so if you want to reorg your site you can just update where the short URL points to). But people don't really take care to maintain short URLs anyway, apparently.
Counting clicks, although probably not all that accurate with bot clicks
Also Short.io gives you a sub domain which is pretty nice

I never have enough time but Iโd love to do a bit more recreational programming with esoterical languages like kitten, #uiuanotesfollow, and #jqnotesfollow. AoC and Project Euler are good because they just require an answer but thereโs also loads of simple puzzles online that rely on being able to submit the code in common languages. Iโve been wondering, however, if I could use an LLM to take those problems and create a verification harness for any language I like.

I suggest looking around your area first, perhaps there are conservation groups already. Then, select among them which one focuses on native species that are most impactful to your place. ๐

Hi, yes, I develop ari. I'm so glad it's proven useful for you! Any feature requests or changes you'd like to see? I'm curious what bits of ari have made it easier for you to explore data, too.
UI or #dataviznotesfollow additions keep tempting me, but I haven't settled on what I want there. If you have thoughts on that front, I welcome them.

The two main things I use are the duckdb support and of course the built-in resty client. Not needing to shell out to curl just makes life easier. I should probably add that Iโm mainly prototyping and explore things that later eventually will be developed further by others in our organization, so using array langs where I donโt need to type a lot is a big plus for me:) Iโll let you know if I need anything!

Thanks, thatโs helpful. Those are the two things I use the most, too.
One development tool I use frequently is the
util.ac function (for โauto-completeโ) that takes a glob pattern and returns all the globals whose names match.
I didnโt want to make people have to define or update their Goal lib path, so in recent versions of ari Iโve been packaging all of the Goal libs and ari's into a libs FS that you can use with import.@fastidiousprofilefollow

Listening to this I had an AHA moment. When the powers that be made more and more LLM tokens the whole goal, I thought it was quite stupid.
But I realized that for them it made sense, because in their managerial understanding of programming, they believed the output of LLMs is the best they could get for the money.
