Big holiday today in Greece, bells ringing, bands singing, people gathered in the village, eating, enjoying life and I'm spending it inside coding. I don't feel bad and I'm not , it's just that I'm a bit odd. I don't like these forced gatherings. Feel stressful.

creator of textlog:I am not good at major social events either; they are very uncomfortable to me. Small, with well known people, gatherings are OK.
They’re firing shots in the sky as it’s a (bad)custom here. Dogs hate it. So do I. There’s no reason to and sometimes people die by misfires. During a holiday or social event. Why risk the lives your own or the people around you? For a stupid custom?
Also, it’s illegal. But noone cares or has the guts to go tell them to stop. You don’t want to make enemies with people that play with guns.
It’s called Dekapentavgoustos, meaning 15th of August in Greek, it’s a celebration of Virgin Mary. It’s a big national holiday.
Ah yes, nothing like discharging firearms into the air to show your devotion to the Virgin Mary

It’s only logical. Crete didn’t experience Renaissance, Enlightenment nor Industrial Age, we basically jumped from the Middle Ages to the Modern Era in the 60s-70s. The people from those times are still here. Try advancing a culture in such short period.
