I tried Emacs for a while thee other year. It has a lot of the PIM apps Linux is really missing and I liked the "s-expression" motions but for the most part I didn't really like the editor. I do prefer readline in Emacs mode though, everyone should learn that.

Through 10 years of I gained a literal feel for Lisp. After that 10 years, has now cured my left arm strain caused by holding down modifier keys.

Vim has a better text editing experience, but Emacs is superior in every other way (customization, packages, file search, etc). So I suppose the answer is Emacs with evil-mode.

Longer answer: My editor does not start wars. I use whatever is convenient. Most of the time I am on visual studio code but I'll use anything. Well, anything except emacs I guess. I don't think I have ever actually used emacs.

Before vim, it was mostly emacs. And I kept using gnus for a long time - can’t remember now, but probably until the Gmail-age.

Vim. Feels like forever now; I was introduced to vim in -96 if memory serves. Over the years I tested others from time to time - but always went back. Now I’m old and it will be hard to move me over to anything else.

You have , there is no need. I tried Emacs out a while ago to see whether it could replace Kakoune (I wanted to draw arbitrary stuff like images, 3D views, etc., in the editor) but honestly, Kakoune makes everything so easy to integrate that it was hard for it to compete.

Most of programs use key chords, like Cmd-Shift-G, Ctrl-Alt-N and so on, you need to remember and press awkwardly several keys at once. uses key sequences, C-c then k then p then l. If I forget after C-c k p then press C-h and help appears.
