The meeting went well and all the topics we discussed were on a positive direction for ! Main point is we are now a legal entity and we can receive funds and โmore importantlyโ grants, in order to keep this project alive and healthy. Our main goal is now growing the site.
Made an important decision today to remove bots entirely from . @hn10 was deleted and weโll no longer have bot accounts and they wonโt be accepted into the platform. It was an experiment but I felt it was diluting the conversations and the cozy human character of .
Syndication bots are ok, as long as the content youโre sharing is yours.
Iโll miss hn10 but as you say - things were becoming more diluted by the sheer amount of posts by it.
Have you thought about say bots.textlog.cc where it is a bot-only space and users of
textlog.cc can follow bots they want or likeItโs using the
/firehose endpoint. Itโs an SSE endpoint publishing everything latest. Though I meant it to be used server-side, since itโs heavily rate-limited โ up to 3 conns under the same network, but I canโt control how clients decide to use it so.. ยฏ\_(ใ)_/ยฏI hate crawlers that donโt advertise theyโre crawlers. โn badly written. They donโt respect the canonical URLs so they keep getting themselves into a loop instead of actually crawling the site properly. They make the logs really hard to read. Canโt block them theyโre distributed.
I am curious what an actual solution to this problem could be. Everything I've read about it feels like a bandaid โ from robots.txt to cloudflare turnstile โ there has to be a better way!
It would require permaban on IPs which would require permalogging of IPs in order to track them, and we are currently obfuscating them before hitting the DB with daily rotating salt so an anonymous user canโt be tracked. So weโd have to give up privacy/security :/

What are your goals for textlog?
Well no signups yesterday. Thatโs weird. Iโve changed the landing page wonder if that was the case or itโs a one-off event. Iโll leave it like this for today and maybe change it back tomorrow if the trend continues. :(
It's not obvious how to sign up. (Did it change or did I just forget?) Are you supposed to enter your email address in the login field, same as if you're logging into an existing account? But also, check if the "magic link" emails are going through, because I suspect they aren't.
I donโt see a problem. It might be that the landing page
/ now shows the page along with CTAs and some context with some hot posts, instead of the feeds directly. You can still click to browse the feeds or sign up. I thought giving some context would be better.I tried inviting an alt email address via the "invite a friend" page, and I tried signing up through the "enter" page, but in neither case did any emails arrive. (It's not in spam either; I checked that.)

And I wouldnโt have the confidence I have now that it went correct. It went well, though a bug or two might surface, weโll see.

I love how dates go so well with cashews. So at least once a day, I grab about 5 whole cashews and 1 date. Itโs a perfect little snack!
Whatโs your favorite ? Mine is banana for snack, blueberries for my yogurt bowl, and mango when Iโm feeling rather indulgent.
I love figs! Not a fruit per se, theyโre flowers, but still. And itโs their season now and they grow in my village so we pick them now.

even if we had an โupload photoโ feature, it would mean it is now siloed into this site, which would bring other complications. iโd rather avoid it for now and keep the site text-only and photos are just links and you see them with the preview just like any other link.
Something that came up recently was a css only implementation of showing when we have hit the character max count before you click submit. Unlike the JavaScript implementation which can show you a dynamic count, this cannot but it is cool and is lightweight

field-sizing trick! Works well. The other trick has issues with prefilled textareas, so it fails in bio textarea and when editing a post/preview/draft. Also I was talking about counting the characters or showing some sort of progress bar, thatโs impossible as well. The <textarea> maxlength hard limit is fine. With the new 500 char limit youโd hardly notice it as well.Iโm sorry about the unsolicited email, but we really have done so much since that it warranted a recap, you can of course turn them off either from the email unsubscribe link or from your account settings. I promise to keep these very very sparse.

I tried CBD mixed with melatonin to get some sleep last night, got to say it feels like it work really nicely, felt really good and energize this morning. Still got a couple of question on potential side effects and scheduling so my body doesn't feel like it need it, any tip?
Um, CBD is a stimulant, though if it works in combination with melatonin for you itโs fine, just saying I know they are opposites.

It doesnโt have the high but it will make you more alert, kind of like tea or coffee.
I just took a look on it yesterday and seems like the stimulant effect is there, so seems like at this point there are mix results on if it actually helps with anxiety and sleep issues. For me personally seems to work just fine but Im not 100% sure how much does it actually does something for me or is just a placebo effect. My thinking is that if I do it from time to time, I can let my body get use to the feeling of a sleep schedule without create dependency on external melatonin dosis or CBD.

Theyโre firing shots in the sky as itโs a (bad)custom here. Dogs hate it. So do I. Thereโs no reason to and sometimes people die by misfires. During a holiday or social event. Why risk the lives your own or the people around you? For a stupid custom?
Also, itโs illegal. But noone cares or has the guts to go tell them to stop. You donโt want to make enemies with people that play with guns.
