I read Still trying to figure out the boundaries of these tools' strengths without outsourcing important thinking, problem-solving, and the collective building-up of a mental model of the systems we're developing. The shape of LLM tools as tools—fit for a purpose, ergonomic—is becoming clearer, and human patterns of behavior with them that do more harm than good are also becoming easier to recognize.

Using the internet these days is like pulling off an elaborate heist operation. Every time I successfully load a page I feel like I've "gotten away with something".

It is sometimes tempting to mutter, "I'm in!" in your movie hacker voice when you finally get past all the cookie/subscription/notification pop-ups.

Textlog for me is a meditation to slow down. It somehow nudges me towards working on my penmanship.

Only images of handwriting allowed? I share this sentiment about textlog entirely. All my other social feeds are so "information" dense and distracting.

thinking on deploying excalidraw on my homeserver, so I can store drawings without bothering with export/import. Yes, excalidraw+ for $7/mo; but nowadays I pay only one sub - for Claude; everything else is personal software.

Well, done, Claude did while I drove a car. It even added save/open file from the server (stored in SQLite). Deployed on my homelab server.

Trying tsoding/tatr idea for task tracking in the project. Instead of his C implementation asked CC to implement tatr.el. I do similar thing with vulpea, even my org notes have timestamp ids. Tatr tasks live in the repo, which is good.

Is open source dead? Everyone has the power now to make their own stacks of things. The people aspect of open source is dead or dying. I don't think the bunny is going back in the box.

One nice thing about Open Source (at least for me) is different people doing the same thing in different ways and one of those happen to suit my taste perfectly. And in many cases, I won't be able to come with it myself even with Super Intelligence.

Evgeny Morozov has pointed out that using ai through chat interfaces is based on an individualised and privatised model, which (heavily paraphrased) is inherently anti-social. With an extra layer now of people making small personalised tools, do bigger things still need teams of people who know what they’re doing?
