The essential work of is building the theory of the problem + solution. Theory then enables creation of working code. In the end, the code is necessary, but it is not sufficient. Theory is indispensable. (cf. Peter Naur, 1985)

code quality is about coupling. coupling is not a technical property of the code bytes. code acquires its meaning in contact with the cultural environment, and coupling is about meaning. two constants with no semantic relationship are nonetheless coupled in pragmatics if they refer to the same domain concept. if your goal is to minimise the time integral of future work, you must understand your domain: it decides which lines will need changing. to carve up a codebase is to carve up the world.

I think you're right but executing on that idea requires a lot of care. It's similar to how functional programmers pathologically fear state; sometimes coupling/state are a necessary evil in order to keep the theory simple.

true! i might have been wiser to say: code quality is about managing coupling across the whole system. extracting a coupling sometimes requires you to introduce complexity beyond that which the extraction reduces.

OK. I've translated the (correctness) requirements of LeetCode No.22 to Lean, and ask Claude Code to both implement a solution and prove it.

In the first attempt, Opus 4.7 successfully completed it and proved it. However, the solution is to enumerate all possible space and .filter out anything that doesn't qualify my definition, which is obviously not ideal (if cheating is too harsh).

I can't think of a good way to also prevent that kind of solutions and ended up prompting "please don't enumerate and filter". Opus 4.7 then reimplemented and proved the backtracking algorithm.

I have to constantly be working or I get very agitated. Is this ? I don’t like entertainment other than background music while working and maybe before going to sleep I watch a series on Netflix to relax. That’s when I’m on my introvert mode. When I’m extrovert (I’m ambivert) I have to constantly be around people and outdoors, I get agitated indoors, can’t work at all and definitely can’t watch anything. How do these two personalities co-exist in me?

Tried some after a long time again today. Couldn’t hold my thoughts for 15 seconds. I used to be able to and blank my mind for 5 to 10 minutes. Need to practice again, I remember how beneficial it was to my when I did it in the past.

Personally, I think I found good framework/vocabulary to help with meditation in some discussion by Jiddu Krishnamurti. Here is one in which he works it out with kids There was a short, to the point lecture where he basically walks you through observing thought, which profoundly changed how I approach meditation but I can't find it for the life of me!

I'm in a similar spot. I haven't maintained a regular practice since I had kids. I can observe the absence of the benefits I got from my practice, too. I'm more reactive and less focused in general. I think that my practice gave me the tools I need to stay present with my daughters, though, so I'm grateful for having retained that.
