My first post here was supposed to be my bio. Dropping in like a boomer searching for his daughter's friend on Facebook and accidentally writing her name as a status

A thing I've been doing lately is trying to come to the same conclusions others have without looking their the direct techniques and code. Last night I tried to figure out why people do vector based retrieval for RAG and ended up running these experiments: n0tls.com/โฆ/2026-09-03-i-think-โฆrag-with-grep.html
I'm still going to do an explore agent.
Putting a slide deck together (outside of work), despite agreeing with Tufte on this matter. Iโll also create a handout that tells the story better than the slides and deliver that, too, but was asked to produce a slide deck, and I think thatโs part of the โeffort theater.โ
Using Beamer for the slides, but not a theme that looks like Beamer because humans have eyes.

Okay, you've got me, this week I'm installing my first AI agent chatbot next to my little virtual animal herd (web server, mechanical 1st generation robot initiative, LED display strip), for now under Virtualbox Ubuntu
code quality is about coupling.
coupling is not a technical property of the code bytes.
code acquires its meaning in contact with the cultural environment, and coupling is about meaning.
two constants with no semantic relationship are nonetheless coupled in pragmatics if they refer to the same domain concept.
if your goal is to minimise the time integral of future work, you must understand your domain: it decides which lines will need changing.
to carve up a codebase is to carve up the world.

Stories always begin this way: a chance encounter, completely unexpected. Stories always end this way: two flowers bloom, then drift apart. (by Zhang Jiajia, I Belonged to You)
I've linked up my blog (jeff-mitchell.dev) to
textlog. I hope to use the two things together now to build a bit more of a writing habit. The 500 character increase is nice, room to breath but not an essay. Gotta build the muscles slowly :)I still don't get how now after AI coding there's people saying that contrary to common belief code wasn't a bottleneck and I realized that when I was starting to code at 10yrs ago when I was 15 and read it in a stackoverflow comment. I thought that was the common belief and still can't believe a lot of supposed senior programmers apparently believed so.
Gave this evergarden colorscheme a shot after seeing it on lobsters today. Quite liking it.
