Been a bit quiet here the last week or so. Recovering from ill health, at risk of redundancy, and working on side projects. It's been a bit full on. Does anyone make pay check/cheque money from side projects? Can I use my redundancy runway to turn some websites from side hustle to salary money?

Recovering from ill healthHope youโ€™re feeling better now!Does anyone make pay check/cheque money from side projects?Thatโ€™s the dream, Iโ€™ve only made a few hundreds so far. Iโ€™ve had a machine gun approach. Shoot as many rounds as possible in the hopes I might hit something. #AInotesfollow has helped immensely in this direction. some people do absolutely improve their work output (either amount or quality) with AI, but most people just resign all their critical thinking to the black box. if you cannot function at YOUR WORKPLACE without ai, chances are that, 99% of the time, you never was supposed to work there in the first place. #ainotesfollow #worknotesfollow #technotesfollow

Is this true? Sometimes, AI allows for socratic thinking, this is, the conversation with the machine allows the thinker to go further as the AI thorws ideas to the conversation. Many times, the AI reasoning is not good enough, but like a friend that says a funny think that sparks an idea, the AI can help our brain to see other possible paths. The AI doesn't need to be right to be helpful

that's only true if a) that "rubber ducky" entity is not leading the line of thinking down the wrong path, and b) the human thinker is actually doing the critical thinking, and not the machine. The latter is where my criticism of unbridled AI use is in this case, wherein the human becomes the rubber ducky instead of the other way around.

A problem I perceive is usage of AI to launder ignorance. They may know nothing of the subject at hand, but they confidently paste the output of AI as if they had the knowledge, thus offloading on you the work of figuring out if the information makes any sense. In many ways it emboldened the incompetent.

Who's enjoying #cnotesfollow in 2026? I'm back after ~14 years away (some sporadic once-in-a-while use in there) and I'm finding it better than ever, a smoother development experience and clearer code than pretty much every language out there, except for maybe #odinnotesfollow.

Considering how absolutely barren it seems out there in terms of C jobs versus C++ jobs, I can barely believe it. What do you work on?

That sounds really cool. Above all I really like hearing that someone enjoys their work and likes showing up for it. I've had that feeling on a few contracts and it's great. Looking to get into embedded myself, since it seems that's where you get to have all the fun writing C. :)

#cnotesfollow has been such a pleasure. Havenโ€™t tried Odin, but was using #zignotesfollow for a while, and I just found myself pulled back to C. A minimal sharp tool. Runs anywhere. Can actually write a compiler for it. Short bootstrap chain from hex0. Does anybody care about these things (anymore)?

Support everywhere (in every way) was key to me starting to use C again. It's nice to not have to worry about the language you use being left out somewhere, a non-starter somewhere else and having to mentally translate it to something else (Zig/Odin in a debugger -> C).
