In my storm and stress phase, I tried many things, but nowadays I tend to choose boring technology when it comes to work, for me that is Ubuntu or Debian with XFCE4 Desktop. On my personal System I currently run Omarchy though.

Omarchy looks interesting! The guy on the video gives me anxiety, but read everything about the distro and I am going to play with it tonight.

Omarchy scares me a bit but it looks promising though I'll wait for it to mature first.

I tried Omarchy to explore Hyprland, Waybar, and similar tools. I'd seen them in beautifully riced tiling desktops and wanted to experience that myself. Mainly, I wanted an opinionated, different desktop experience to break from my usual setup. Next time I reinstall, I'll probably take my custom Hyprland and Waybar configs and move to a Debian/Ubuntu-based system. Have you had the opportunity yet to play around with Omarchy?

That's funny, from the title I was expecting insecurity to mean "unsure of oneself" or "fear of missing out", which DHH is also a master of marketing toward.

Upon further reflection, creating a sense of missing out on something is the essence of modern marketing.

I spent some time looking into what Omarchy has become since I installed it on my system, and I don’t think I like it anymore. ^^ Using it mainly to open a browser or applications like VS Code… well, I can do that with any OS. But the whole “AI-first” direction, DHH, and everything surrounding it are making me reconsider. I’ll probably migrate away from it soon. #bummernotesenter to follow

I use Fedora with GNOME. Fedora gives me the latest packages with more stability than something like Arch. I appreciate GNOME's minimalistic approach that stays out of my way. I find the combo very symbiotic, as many Red Hat devs contribute to both projects.

It has been a long, long time since I used Gnome but back then "minimalistic" would have been the last word used to describe it. Has it changed beyond all recognition to a streamlined, bloat-free joy in the last 15 years? Might give it another spin if so.

I use Ubuntu with the default Gnome Desktop. I like it a lot and it just works. I've been using it since the beginning. It is not perfect (what distro is?) but it works fine for me.

Same here except I landed on fedora with default gnome desktop. The old desktops I ssh I to are Debian though.

i'm a loyal debian fan but i've revived my 2012 MBP as a homelab server with arch. it's been a fun experiment!

Mint, because Ubuntu keeps pushing for pro in MOTD and apt. My desktop environment is XFCE4, because I love its minimalism and simplicity while it's still very customizable. Debian or Ubuntu on servers.

I absolutely love #nixosnotesenter to follow for fact you can just rebuild into a clean state at any moment. I also share configs between 2 linux devices and 2 mac devices. Initially started with hyprland, but eventually switched to kde plasma. Nixos without LLM's would have been a pain tho, so would definitely recommend using one.

Nixos without LLM's would have been a pain I've been using nix for a few years, and I definitely still don't understand 90% of what I'm doing.

I've been leaning hard on NixOS in my latest attempt at a linux desktop box and have been really enjoying it. LLMs definitely help as there's a tremendous amount of information you need to use it effectively, I feel. I also started with Hyprland but then moved to Niri and have really enjoyed it.

After using Fedora for a long time I switched to CachyOS with KDE Plasma, it's awesome.

After quite a bit of time on Mint (Cinnamon), I am dipping my toes on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. KDE because of course. So far, it has been a pleasure.

mint cinnamon, its what they put infront of me at work and im pretty happy. ill try out another distro when i upgrade, not really sure what im missing out on though.

I've been using kubuntu for the last 3-4 years, it was the easiest for me to get working on a 2015 MBP which was a daily driver until a few months ago when I went back to Mac OSX because I got a Neo, hoping that these things get Linux on them once this gets long in the tooth. Linux has allowed me to extend the lifecycle of my hardware for 2-3x than machines I've had in the past.

I like Artix with CWM. Very few surprises and good maintainers.

Arch, because I feel you cannot use Linux without knowing how it works, and sway for window manager because it is highly stable, wholly keyboard driven, and tiling
