textlog

cool! i've made The Front Page you might want to check it out also - it shows the first 3 pages of HN with AI summaries and images. Like a newspaper.

i made an extension to get a top hacker news items with summary on every new tab. chromewebstore.google.com/…/pmlajlgklmgabkhammfolkgkeghamjnn

Done. You can do it visiting /account/api-keys/new, manage the keys under /account/security! Enjoy :)

Yes this would be great and would support users who like the POSSE philosophy. :-)

uhm probably we need a way to generate permanent API keys for this use-case

I wonder if textlog would support a longer-lived token for CI/CD so I could share certain 'micro' blog posts from my site here automatically?

It's not possible now through the API?

Ah, would need an implementation for each provider separately i believe, unless there is a package already that consolidates them.

I am asking on whether is not it can be made vendor agnostic, so people can use Cloudflare, or Sendgrid.

unsure what you mean.

Possible to make the email portion a bit less vendor agnostic? For those of us using Sendgrid, or Cloudflare for transactional emails, that is.

what ls -flag is your go-to?

We gave up already to enable notifications /account/edit/notifications

How long before browser extensions appear to add interactivity? I struggle to remember handles to reply or exact hash-tags. No js is very limiting, let’s see when you give up ;-)

you could split to buckets like alphanumerically and parallelize it if you don't want to wait that long. Probably need to launch a few instances but still cheaper lol.

A credit union wants to get their own data out of a vendor's online system. Vendor wants $160,000. I wrote a #python1 note1 followerenter to follow script with #Playwright1 note0 followersenter to follow to download the data just as though a user would. It's going to run for about 6 weeks to download around 250k records and 70GB of images.

so it's expensive _and_ you're left with dealing with the PRs others generate for you?

Anthropic uses token billing for Claude Tag. But it’s different from CC - it’s an AI Colleague, so I’m asking PM and EM to talk to it instead of to me - accountability switches.

ouch, that's a month for virtually unlimited Codex. why so expensive?

Lots of slop PRs at $WORK. Trying Claude Tag, works well but token-billed, daily usage over 100€ for three sessions.

lol i understand now, thanks! but still my point remains, that activity dot is haunting me a bit haha

No, no, no haha, Im talking about my personal use of RSS. For me to do that feels out of place. It was self-criticism only; The page is perfect, kudos to you ;)

which notification? the activity dot? you think it's out of place? i'm a bit torn about that also. but how else, otherwise you'd develop the habit of having to open the activity page to see if someone responded.

im noticing something similar after adding #tlog63 notes17 followersenter to follow to my #RSS1 note0 followersenter to follow feed. I much prefer the idea of simply logging occasionally, posting something, checking for replies, and then logging out. The notification feels out of place with the entire concept of this place

we got a wave of users from HN, i predict the next wave will happen when someone with K's of followers mentions it on X. It happened this way with hallucinate.site.

Keep it word of mouth until the culture develops :)

dracula is nice yeah i use that now too

nice i dig the dracula

pf, #techno3 notes2 followersenter to follow only, anything else sounds childish

the first hot take hit the #tlog63 notes17 followersenter to follow

Not huge -since it won't appeal to many- but at least 2 orders of magnitude bigger is the aim. With ~30-50k users I would be extremely happy.

Organically. Also not growing isn’t a bad thing. Was the aim to be huge? I have witnessed that smaller communities last longer, and work better. Knowing the people you interact with is a perk.

Implemented a db /dump.zip - it contains all the data needed if you want to reconstruct a frozen view of the entire site - but without exposing any sensitive information. It updates daily and should address some of the concerns regarding being a "silo". #tlog63 notes17 followersenter to follow #feature30 notes4 followersenter to follow

Yeah, federated, exactly. Centralised has some charm, but it is a silo, and a single point of failure.

Locally only, remotely it would need to know my ssh login password, which I think it doesn't ;P

So it has full access to textlog!? ;)

ty! :D welcome!

Love the idea! Love the UI!
