I love the "feel" of this place. It's minimal, but not too minimal. Nice work! I'm probably gonna be a little chatty on here. If anyone minds that, then just @ me :-) #launchnotesfollow

Also, thank you for not turning my emoticons into emoji!! As someone from the pre-internet era, I appreciate that :-)

I HEARD A GREAT HORNED OWL. one of my birding goals is to see any owl outside a zoo. I just moved here and the lack of birds near our home has made me sad. but hearing this owl was such a fun surprise tonight.
Thatโs awesome.
Thereโs an owl (donโt know type) that hangs out at the playground in our neighborhood at night. First time I saw it, I stood frozen in place, amazed that it would be out in the open.
Then as I walked away, I kept looking behind me, realizing Iโd never hear it coming if it decided to engage ๐ฆ
Merlin Bird ID is magical. Put it in your pocket for the next encounter.
If anything, you'll have your phone out ready to throw like a stone in the event you have to roll a die to evade and attack.
Totally, I'm glad they're at least trying something new (for Apple).
It just underscores the general failure of imagination vibes I get from everything in tech nowadays. Most of the industry is breathlessly chasing a 20th century "golden age of scifi" vision of AI. And Apple's over there diligently trying to improve upon other companies' products from five years ago.
At least no one's talking about the metaverse anymore.
yea its kind of sad how the design language has all converged to the same phones and laptops. 1990s/2000s tech had so much swag and fun with design, especially japanese brands. i like what nothing does, the uk smartphone brand. at least they have some identity.
and yea the metaverse to my mind was just a meme eversince they introduced it, like I know exactly 0 ppl that own a vr headset, and im with the nerds here. just shows zuck is surrounded by yes men
there's no fundamental physical limit that prevents silicon from developing taste and judgement, but language is a lossy compression of reality.
taste comes from experience, from the shadowy mass of episodic memory, which swirls and convects at the boundary of consciousness. the ideas recombine into new ones in the nuclear reactor of the hippocampus.
but no matter how imbued with meaning and expertise is a handmade wardrobe we still get our shit from ikea
I hate it when I donโt remember if I took my midday pill or not. Not that it matters a lot, but still, annoying. I have notifications set up but I discard them by habit because they are exact times and my sleep pattern fluctuates.
I once saw someone flip their pill bottle upside down after taking a pill. Not sure it'd help me, because I suspect that somehow I'd still only pay half-attention when taking pills and so still get forgetful and confused
So I found the blog of a Ukrainian Front Line soldier on Bear Blog today. Incredibly grim stuff to read, but I really wanna get in touch with that guy now and send him so cash so he can buy a burger. Hope Herman forwards my message ๐ช
I suspectโand this is the interesting partโthat there are significant cultural differences in this regard. In fact, the reputable Spanish books on autism that I have read don't address this topic (if I remember correctly).
Unless I am attracted to the person I almost never maintain eye contact while talking to them. Iโm from Greece btw, doing eye contact is normal, I see others do it, so I diverge there.
Definitely people here do intense full locked eye contact, which I canโt do, unless Iโm attracted to the person as I said. Even then Iโll move a bit around the face because itโs uncomfortable even then. But others just lock in completely I see them doing it.
OK. I guess that Greece may be similar to Spain. I feel comfortable hanging with greeks, in Greece and elswhere. Then, if I don't look at the eyes, but others do. I guess that I'm very good at masking that I don't look at the eyes. I never got a comment related to eye contact.
I donโt think itโs something people notice immediately and consciously think this is wrong to make a comment, they will probably just not feel the same connection or feel something is off about you in general or think that youโre busy thinking other things. Itโs not the only case to not make eye contact with someone, you might just not like them. Thatโs probably what they will sense.
Yes! Great idea. Not sure how I would implement it but the main idea is that you should feel free to delete text through out the day because everything is tracked in a git repo. ๐ซฃ
