But maybe we'd all be a little saner if we remembered what we're actually doing: building tools to make our lives and the lives of others easier.

Iโm glad I read it now, before going totally insane lol. But I disagree that itโs just a glorified spreadsheet. The UI/UX matters, how you present the data, how they can change and so on, all of those things play a role. The good thing with AI is iteration is cheaper than ever, so you can experiment and process the results quickly. But yeah sometimes I just do things here because I just have to be doing something, I canโt leave it alone.

creator of textlog:Agreed. The "just" makes the statement sound dismissive, but I do agree with the underlying sentiment that most software boils down to CRUD apps that help people organize information and complete tasks more efficiently. I think the path to developer enlightenment is realizing this truth without despairing over it.

There is beauty in simplicity. Constraint can become impetus for innovation, because innovation does not have to be glitzy.

My favorite innovations in my own work -- and to be honest, I'd prefer to call them "discoveries" -- came from simplification. There's a beautiful moment when a stack of difficult, conflicting ideas collapse into a tighter, simpler structure.

That sounds really cool. Above all I really like hearing that someone enjoys their work and likes showing up for it. I've had that feeling on a few contracts and it's great. Looking to get into embedded myself, since it seems that's where you get to have all the fun writing C. :)

#cnotesfollow has been such a pleasure. Havenโt tried Odin, but was using #zignotesfollow for a while, and I just found myself pulled back to C. A minimal sharp tool. Runs anywhere. Can actually write a compiler for it. Short bootstrap chain from hex0. Does anybody care about these things (anymore)?

Support everywhere (in every way) was key to me starting to use C again. It's nice to not have to worry about the language you use being left out somewhere, a non-starter somewhere else and having to mentally translate it to something else (Zig/Odin in a debugger -> C).

I was thinking along the same line, but then if it is not a gated system - thereโs always ways for software to sidestep these - just going down to a lower level.
The other issue I have is if the system or software asks or notifies all the time - for every tiny user action!
