I loved the book and Iโ€™m always fearful when a movie script is developed and a movie produced, so my relief after I saw the movie was immense. I too feel theyโ€™ve cut-out some bits, but the main thing that a book almost always takes my breath away with is fueling my imagination. A movie would (possibly) never nail that aspect.

I just watched it as well. It was fun. There were a number of things that I felt weren't explained well and broke my suspension of disbelief; I haven't read the book, but I found myself really curious whether the book takes the time to justify things more. Obviously, the movie has a lot of pressure to rush to the next "big moment".

If thereโ€™s one thing Andy Weir canโ€™t be critiqued on then itโ€™s not fully justifying all of the science. I think the film on the other hand can be hard to follow for someone who has neither read the book nor has a scientific background. Itโ€™s just hard to monologue about gravitational forces and relativistic speeds on screen.

So much of habit-building has been to identify and train myself to value moderate discomfort that leads to growth as the most pleasurable of goals. Consistent spiritual efforts, healthy food and in proper amounts, minimum sleep quota, regular exercise a few times a weekโ€”all of these involve discomfort and force of will, but all of them enable growth and fulfillment.

I direct a plan, then break it into phases, and each phase into sections with tasks and sub-tasks. The plan outlines all phases, but only write tasks one phase at a time, since things change. #opinionnotesfollow That's how I've been working with #ainotesfollow for the past few months to a year. It has been amazingly consistently high quality. just-get-it-done is for the rough sketch or proof of concepts (I do those too and a lot of them) but never for a quality product. #opinionnotesfollow
Inspired by two projects of github:schildep I start to explore what can be expressed in Lean and make coding agents implement and prove the implementation at the same time.
The two projects of github:schildep are "3d mesh intersection" and "multipolygon intersection". I can try "Voronoi diagram generation" as a starter.

ai coding feels like it has reached diminishing returns for me. luna is my default orchestrator, routing work by complexity. in practice, usage lands around 16% luna, 48% sol, 30% astra, and 6% terra. at this point, i care less about each new frontier release. the system already finds a capable model for the job. the frontier is moving beyond my day-to-day work, so iโ€™m happy to settle into predictable models for a while. #ainotesfollow #programmingnotesfollow #agentnotesfollow #technotesfollow

Iโ€™ve found the same, albeit with Opus โ€” itโ€™s hard to find uses for Fable. I donโ€™t need a model that works for longer or works on harder problems, I need one that consistently produces simple, easy to understand, code; which at this point none of them do.

I've been there since I settled on a combination of GLM, DeepSeek and MiMo for planning, implementation, and verification flows. I'm a lot more interested at this point in having cheaper models that can consistently do the work I need. It's been a while that I hanven't noticed any improvement when I try new frontier models. I only notice they are very expensive.

same here, for almost an year. At this point, I could easily live with models that were released 6-12 months ago and continue doing so. also possibly the reason why the current focus has been around agentic workflows or agentic anything, than the model capabilities.

Coding probably yeah, but still they are bad at generating novel information, new ideas and such. Theyโ€™re also not very good at seeing the bigger picture, they will narrowly perform the task but theyโ€™re not taking into account future revisions, which ends up in refactor after refactor in order to move forward.
