It seems this year is when big budget LLM players overtake independent academic mathematicians, in speed at least. The Jacobian conjecture, a lot of Erdos problems, now even the Navier Stokes millenium problem. Solved due to new model releases, all within this summer.

in math it can definitely prove statements that havent been proven before. I dont think thats the big thing though since it also writes sentences nobody has ever written before and in software it can write programs that havent been written before. Its just that the speed and scalability that has overtaken human mathematicians and programmers
If programming is the typing of characters into a text file, it is way worse. I think the key to learning is still doing it rather than reading it. If the question is about system design I think you can, but only if you curious and it becomes a problem that needs to be solved. Asking "What do you think" is one of my favorite questions to learn at the moment.

I do think there will be what were hard earned lessons about system design, code smell, designing data structures for the hardware you're running on, concurrency golden paths, etc., which are now with agentic dev even harder to learn and internalize. But also if you have an excellent teacher in the form of an actually-good model pair programming with you always, maybe not? Maybe a pair programming AI programming tutor would be a good Zed/vscode extension. Or product.

Many leaders acquire authority through ambition and manipulation. Iโ€™m not referring to them. But a test of leadership for those who acquire authority organically, with the will of those being led, is to maintain the zeal and principles which put you into that position, after you encounter the machinery designed to exhaust, exasperate, deter, and demoralize.

but according to experience, the fatigue of the user interface will sooner or later lead to the fatigue and then the slowdown of the system itself. I think in 1-2 years (when no one will remember it anymore), they will bring back the Windows 10 user interface as a revolutionary innovation under the name Windows 12.

When I was 10, I thought I'd be a scientist I wanted to tinker in a lab, doing something with beakers and bunsen burners Making a difference. As young kid I dreamed of working with reel-to-reel machines Cutting/splicing tape, happy accidents As a teen I couldn't afford reel-to-reel but got decent with multi-track cassettes Everyone was telling me digital was The Way (tm) In my 30s, I finally learned how to use a DAW properly In my 40s, I'm back to playing around with multi-tracks cassettes There is no money in it, but I'm enthusiastic as I can be (this is not so much as direct response as simply a response) #musicnotesfollow #aifearnotesfollow

Another surprise from Windows 11: in addition to the fact that its interface is much more annoying than Windows 10's, I now supposedly have to wait 10 days for the previous system to delete itself from the computer

they too have every incentive to exaggerate because they are selling safety and/or books on the topic. I donโ€™t believe we wonโ€™t see it coming. Any issues that will manifest will be very visible and weโ€™ll have plenty of time to mitigate their impact.

they could be making a lot more money by just working at ai firms i fear. the thing that got me worried the hacking incidents lately, huggingface etc. if the capabilities consistently outspeed the development of safety measures, and if the private arms race logic continues, i dont think this is a good spot to be in long term
