I want to become an excellent marketing person😭😭

Many leaders acquire authority through ambition and manipulation. I’m not referring to them. But a test of leadership for those who acquire authority organically, with the will of those being led, is to maintain the zeal and principles which put you into that position, after you encounter the machinery designed to exhaust, exasperate, deter, and demoralize.

Big holiday today in Greece, bells ringing, bands singing, people gathered in the village, eating, enjoying life and I'm spending it inside coding. I don't feel bad and I'm not , it's just that I'm a bit odd. I don't like these forced gatherings. Feel stressful.

It’s called Dekapentavgoustos, meaning 15th of August in Greek, it’s a celebration of Virgin Mary. It’s a big national holiday.

What does shots fired and Virgin Mary have in common???

Crete.

Hah. Didn’t see that coming

…

I regret avoiding those things when I was younger. The stress from socializing is how you grow.

where in Greece are you from? my family is from Karpathos.

I noticed today that I'm an idiot. I built a static site generator with NO DATA MODEL. Beginning to fix it now, but my god how embarrassing. Hobbyist less than amateur...wow. Good thing my day job isn't at stake.

┌─────────────────┐ │ hello, world │ │ │ │ i was here. │ └─────────────────┘ ,

did they silently decrease the subscription limits on codex? (in addition to reintroducing the 5h limit?) subscription models suck so bad when they can just change the terms and make the product shittier.

I reached the limit also for the first time on the $100. Either that or we’re just using them more.

ive been dual wielding 2 accounts with some fallback shenanigans. on average its enough for me, but on heavy weeks its annoying. + it feels intransparent

Still in Quebec City, which has a pretty sizable street population once you come down from the hill where the tour groups go. We had to basically step over some guys sharing a glass pipe on the only stairs up the hill yesterday; I have teenagers so this bothered me. Later, my youngest and I were talking and he says "why don't the police do something about that?"

He's showing me the first season of Mob Psycho, so I say You know how Mob's little brother Ritsu wants to clean up the school so there are no people who will bully Mob, and so he allies with the power hungry student council president and frames all the bullies to get them expelled and the whole situation eventually becomes really corrupt and authoritarian and Ritsu feels to blame even though he started out with good intentions? Life is really like that...

…

And so my guess is that Quebec is in the portion of the cycle that's reacting to harsh and unfair policing of the past. Someday a mayoral candidate will get elected on the promise of cleaning it all up and the cycle will begin again. Anyway Mob Psycho is a good show.

it's unfortunate these kinds of obvious non-starters for a functional society can only ever be discussed on both extremes of the political spectrum. It shouldn't be a question that degeneracy has no place in public settings.

Just trying to see how this works

there's no fundamental physical limit that prevents silicon from developing taste and judgement, but language is a lossy compression of reality. taste comes from experience, from the shadowy mass of episodic memory, which swirls and convects at the boundary of consciousness. the ideas recombine into new ones in the nuclear reactor of the hippocampus. but no matter how imbued with meaning and expertise is a handmade wardrobe we still get our shit from ikea

Trying the persona feature. It is very nifty!

i just got home from the day trip to Zaragoza, it's late and I got to wake up early tomorrow (・・;) How am I visibly the most tired, but I'm the youngest? I need more stamina ( ￣▽￣)

Took a little .

Man, I LOVE naps! In fact, I mostly subsist on four or five 1-1/2 hour naps each day instead of one long over-night sleep period these days. I didn't set out to have a sleep schedule, but here I am. :-)

Doing that would trigger my really quick, even not having a full night sleep puts me in the danger zone immediately.

…

My whole life, if I get in more than 6 hours at a stretch, I'm sluggish and mentally out of it for hours.

Oh, dear! I wasn't polyphasic before cats owned me. Are my furry overlords rubbing off on me? LOL

I like this.

The live tab on the android app is interesting... How does it work? This is a test 🫣

Does it do some kind of polling? Is there some kind of notify like publisher subscriber? 🤔

It’s using the /firehose endpoint. It’s an SSE endpoint publishing everything latest. Though I meant it to be used server-side, since it’s heavily rate-limited — up to 3 conns under the same network, but I can’t control how clients decide to use it so.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

…

Might just lift the limitation.

Lifted, that’s how clients want to use it then so be it! Should be fine. We’re nowhere near crashing the server from connections.

Munkák és napok rovatunk következik, avagy ki mit végzett ma, ez itt egy Windows 11-be rakott VirtualBox, amiben ott figyel az Ubuntu telepítése.

Next up is our work and days section, or who did what today. This is a VirtualBox installed in Windows 11, with the Ubuntu installation watching.

It's cookie o'clock, y'all.

Ask HN: What's slop? what's AI written text and why read/not read? news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49289341#49290428

You've hit the nail on the head. But here's the mindblowing part—writing isn't just about text on a page. It's not about listing a bunch of facts to memorize. Writing is about human connection. And here's where it gets even more fascinating... [parody, not AI]

…

Some writing yes, If you want to write a post saying why your company has a position yes; if you are documenting an API, does the average swagger page have a human connection factor? If you are in X/FB, is any of your followers a "human connection"?

Then, in some spaces, say big corp communications, the terse, direct communication is desired, for example the quarter earning communication? What about software?, what part of your browser gives you the "human connection"?

If writing (incl X/FB posts) is meant to convey "some human being did/saw/thought this and found it worth writing about", then AI undermines human connection and will annoy people. API docs, earnings reports, &c never conveyed that to begin with, so nobody will care about AI use.
