Last year I wasn't feeling too good. I turned forty, waited for surgery, and was hurt by my own colleagues. So I dealt with things. Maybe not so well, but to the best of my ability. One of the consequences was that I got a bit heavy. My body changed, and I didn't feel like myself. It was a problem for future me. So now I am here with this little belly of mine. We're not enemies, but I decided it's time to part ways. So I count calories. Maybe not so well, but to the best of my ability.

Almost back to baseline now, after a few months. trigger warning, eating disorders: I sometimes forget to log what I eat in my app of course, but what is perhaps slightly nore disturbing is the fact that I sometimes log stuff and then forget to actually eat them. Some sort of Baudrillardian simulacrum of eating.

In China, I am practically independent of the government; I don't participate in any activities based on my status, such as formal work or online shopping. I've paid a heavy price for this; my choices have been severely limited, and my mobility has been significantly impaired. I can only access the internet through limited free Wi-Fi.

Any runners on here? I mostly consider myself a trail runner, but of course train on roads, too. Good for 1–2 races/year, more into running as a practice, a way to manage stress and stay fit.

5 min/km is pretty quick, as far as I'm concerned! My easy/forever pace is more like 8:30–9 min/mile right now.

I read Still trying to figure out the boundaries of these tools' strengths without outsourcing important thinking, problem-solving, and the collective building-up of a mental model of the systems we're developing. The shape of LLM tools as tools—fit for a purpose, ergonomic—is becoming clearer, and human patterns of behavior with them that do more harm than good are also becoming easier to recognize.

I was obsessed with Greece as a kid because of The Chipmunk's Adventure movie where they were dancing on the statues, ha. I was more into he statues (even if cartoon) than the dancing, and yet I have still never been there (I'm 45).

Crete is beautiful, I remember being on vacation there many years ago and hiking a long gorge. It was a really great experience.

Google also manages the cookie data and other tracking s@rs on the server, I don't really see anything from these, no IP, nothing, Google is more of a search engine than an artificial intelligence application, but today all AI and search engines work with hybrid technology

i keep open all day - the 3d pauses when the tab is out of focus, so i just get a ton of music i like without wasting cpu/gpu, and occassionally switch to the tab and play a little or chat if anyone's there.

Been a bit quiet here the last week or so. Recovering from ill health, at risk of redundancy, and working on side projects. It's been a bit full on. Does anyone make pay check/cheque money from side projects? Can I use my redundancy runway to turn some websites from side hustle to salary money?

I’ve had a machine gun approach. Shoot as many rounds as possible in the hopes I might hit something. has helped immensely in this direction. I’ve done a dozen projects past year and while became I’m still not there yet. I’m hopeful though! 😊

Genuinely, I’m grateful we have such great choices when it comes to programming languages.

It’s just sad the whole corporate world runs on Java, Python, C++, C#, and JavaScript so I just look in envy at what I could be using

So, I've been using this harness for a week and a half now, and what's interesting to me is that it brings a lot of things that I'd already built for myself in Pi. I built a little email system for agents to communicate, a memory system to do this "continual harness" thing of self-improvement. I know I'll move on to another harness in the future, so I'm trying to treat this like I do laptops now, and think about portability in the things I build or customize.

code quality is about coupling. coupling is not a technical property of the code bytes. code acquires its meaning in contact with the cultural environment, and coupling is about meaning. two constants with no semantic relationship are nonetheless coupled in pragmatics if they refer to the same domain concept. if your goal is to minimise the time integral of future work, you must understand your domain: it decides which lines will need changing. to carve up a codebase is to carve up the world.

I think you're right but executing on that idea requires a lot of care. It's similar to how functional programmers pathologically fear state; sometimes coupling/state are a necessary evil in order to keep the theory simple.
