Testing this quiet corner of the web. I collect small notes about everyday tools ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ file formats, tiny utilities, offline workflows. First post is just a hello; longer notes will follow once I settle in. Plain text feels good after years of heavy editors.
Iโd love to hear also about these workflows. Welcome!

Been a bit quiet here the last week or so. Recovering from ill health, at risk of redundancy, and working on side projects. It's been a bit full on.
Does anyone make pay check/cheque money from side projects? Can I use my redundancy runway to turn some websites from side hustle to salary money?
Recovering from ill healthHope youโre feeling better now!Does anyone make pay check/cheque money from side projects?Thatโs the dream, Iโve only made a few hundreds so far. Iโve had a machine gun approach. Shoot as many rounds as possible in the hopes I might hit something. #AInotesfollow has helped immensely in this direction. Iโve done a dozen projects past year and while a few
I like this, it feels like Reddit before what it is now, but I feel like it wonโt be long until the internet destroys this place. Until then Iโm happy to be here.
It's really sad that this is such a common sentiment whenever there's a nice online community nowadays. Guess most of us have been burnt enough times by now
My favorite part of classic reddit was the use of elaborate hacks to circumvent the restrictions on custom subreddit CSS. E.g. animated gifs weren't allowed, so people made filmstrip sprites with stepwise animation in such a way as to look exactly the same.

'wade in the water.' isn't this the challenge of being 'ahead'? so many of us are waist deep in the same sea, it's hard to see what's in front of us vs. what's behind us. then we see the yacht boys sail by with their new masters, splashing us in their wake. then we grumble amongs
Lot of wildlife run-ins on my neighborhood trails this week. Ran past three deer yesterday, including a buck. Then a hare as I made it to the top of San Pedro Mountain this morning.
When I write I just add html files to the swiley.net folder in public.swiley.net. Sometimes I syndicate elsewhere (I was doing Substack for a while before Notes took over.)
Do you code in silence or do you listen to music? If so, what kind of music do you prefer? Personally, I prefer Synthwave, vaporwave or the occasional country.
I can recommend rainwave.cc if you want an online radio for video game music. I tend to hang around there quite often and listen to their chiptune station.
depends on my mood and inner state
sometimes just silence
sometimes background from mynoise .net
sometimes a punk rock web radio
sometimes my music collection (I stream myself, that's right). mostly punk rock again.
very occasional let YouTube run starting from something I like
Catastrophic interference is also a favorite Wikipedia page and concept. The thing is, it doesnโt only happen to artificial neural networks, Iโve had it happen to me a few times. Especially with pin numbers, newer pins overwriting old ones and Iโm always scared when Iโm having hard time remembering something that this catastrophic interference applied and now the information is gone from my brain.
Current #jjnotesfollow aliases:
# The canonical tug
tug = ["bookmark", "move", "--from", "closest_bookmark(@-)", "--to", "@-"]
# Show my current work-in-progress(es). To wip it, whip it good.
wips = ["log", "-r", "bookmarks() | description(exact:'')"]
I've found myself really liking the "megamerge" #jjnotesfollow workflow. Not an alias, just a whole thing.

The interface needs some work. For example, I would like the textarea that I am using right now to be as wide as the header above. Also, where is the character counter?
Well I am starting a journey to learn LaTeX, took me time to get convinced on used it (I know) but let's see how it goes, again life showing me is never too late to learn something new
I am trying to learn emacs for the fun of it. The tutorial is brilliant and clear. Any tips that would help me learning more things. I know all I need is practice but if you may have used it, you may know a thing or two.
