A long time ago, I was told by someone wiser that a romantic relationship is a long exercise in managing frustration. Not all that different from life in general, really.

5. They don't have the time anymore but won't try fixes. This is the typical external challenge that sign 4 was about. Schedules fall out of sync, or someone has less available time? This often can be fixed if each party cares enough and is intentional enough. For example, why not exchange small gifts to make each other's presence be felt? Or go for exchanging longer form letters? A persistent refusal indicates they just won't make the time for you.

It’s easy, just add your own timestamp to posts 2:35 am Tuesday, 25 August 2026 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)

I haven't tried it myself, your note prompted me to look for it. I enjoy colors, too. Their linting rules get a nope from me as well.

Thanks, could be interesting to look into. I know they're optional but I'm totally against their linting's rules.

Apparently there is a project to add syntax highlight to English proseGitHubGitHub - flyingrobots/colorful-language: Make English prose light up like code: local, deterministic part-of-speech highlighting and linting via a Rust CLI and LSP.Make English prose light up like code: local, deterministic part-of-speech highlighting and linting via a Rust CLI and LSP. - flyingrobots/colorful-language. Per README, Neovim is supported. Now your prose, too, can look like a box of crayons.

I have syntax highlighting in my #neovimenter to follow as decoration more than aid. #Writingenter to follow prose with it is a bit sad sometimes.
If that's the case, YearMonth should be more than enough. This post is from 2026-08. This gives you enough context of what was happening at the time, but with no more context than necessary. I'm suggesting that as a compromise. I really like the absence of likes, timestamps, counters, and so on. Text is timeless. I don't need the precise timestamp of the Complaint Tablet to Ea-Nasir to laugh at Nanni and his messenger being treated with contempt.
That was one idea. I’m thinking to restore them just for historical posts so that there is some context when they were written and what was happening then, perhaps after a month, and inside the post details page, not in the feeds.
I personally enjoy the lack of timestamps. But if this becomes a problem, maybe vague descriptions would be useful. "fairly recent", "sometime ago", "this is ancient", etc.
That’s what I’m hoping for! Resurrecting old interesting discussions based on their content. And also not ignoring posts that are not fresh, e.g responding to a “good morning” post. If you see “5h” you would ignore it. Now you don’t know. Let’s see how it goes for a few days.
This is what convinced me to join. There's no noise, there is only text.
Made another important decision to remove all counters — notes, replies, following, followers — from both people and hashtags, so you focus on the content not the numbers. It was creating competition which feeds the dopamine system, which we have exhausted and try to avoid.

After quite a bit of time on Mint (Cinnamon), I am dipping my toes on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. KDE because of course. So far, it has been a pleasure.
