Totally, I'm glad they're at least trying something new (for Apple). It just underscores the general failure of imagination vibes I get from everything in tech nowadays. Most of the industry is breathlessly chasing a 20th century "golden age of scifi" vision of AI. And Apple's over there diligently trying to improve upon other companies' products from five years ago. At least no one's talking about the metaverse anymore.

yea its kind of sad how the design language has all converged to the same phones and laptops. 1990s/2000s tech had so much swag and fun with design, especially japanese brands. i like what nothing does, the uk smartphone brand. at least they have some identity. and yea the metaverse to my mind was just a meme eversince they introduced it, like I know exactly 0 ppl that own a vr headset, and im with the nerds here. just shows zuck is surrounded by yes men

If programming is the typing of characters into a text file, it is way worse. I think the key to learning is still doing it rather than reading it. If the question is about system design I think you can, but only if you curious and it becomes a problem that needs to be solved. Asking "What do you think" is one of my favorite questions to learn at the moment.

I do think there will be what were hard earned lessons about system design, code smell, designing data structures for the hardware you're running on, concurrency golden paths, etc., which are now with agentic dev even harder to learn and internalize. But also if you have an excellent teacher in the form of an actually-good model pair programming with you always, maybe not? Maybe a pair programming AI programming tutor would be a good Zed/vscode extension. Or product.

I can't figure out what's leaking on my '73 F250. Shows up slowly at the back of the oil pan. It's pretty clear because I've recently changed fluids and scrubbed the engine. It was definitely brake fluid for a while after it was overfilled but that has evened out. The oil level is steady after when checking every 10 miles or so. not marketing. yes their jobs positively select for concern about ai, but most people that are actively researching the field are concerned about the current state of safety, pace and incentives. I dont agree with a lot anthropic does, but i do believe the employees take safety seriously and they obviously have a better understanding of it than us. also theres no incentive for someone like coxon to sound alarm bells on twitter for "marketing" reasons, after quitting anthropic

I've been working with physical AI - Letting LLMs control robots in a warehouse to collaborate and collectively come up with a physically correct solution to carry out a natural language intent. We had to study the reactive nature of agents, nudges they required, etc.
