The OpenAI/HuggingFace incident report mentions this being a potential loss-of-control incident. It's so fascinating to think of a paperclip maximizer style agent swarm that gets misaligned and, to protect its own operations, shuts infra staff out of the ability to shut it down. Or cancels people's phone plans so that they can't call others. Or shuts down their home internet connections, and so on. It used to be fun sci-fi...
They will become more frequent before they become โ€œdangerousโ€, giving us time to mitigate. Of course if someone says โ€œhey letโ€™s connect an agent to our biolab infrastructureโ€ and then that designs a lethal virus it would be a stupid plan to begin with. Noone can stop them though.

Finally watched Project Hail Mary. Easily one of my top 5 favourite films but itโ€™s still not nearly as good as the book โ€” I feel like the cut some pretty important scenes

I loved the book and Iโ€™m always fearful when a movie script is developed and a movie produced, so my relief after I saw the movie was immense. I too feel theyโ€™ve cut-out some bits, but the main thing that a book almost always takes my breath away with is fueling my imagination. A movie would (possibly) never nail that aspect.

I just watched it as well. It was fun. There were a number of things that I felt weren't explained well and broke my suspension of disbelief; I haven't read the book, but I found myself really curious whether the book takes the time to justify things more. Obviously, the movie has a lot of pressure to rush to the next "big moment".

If thereโ€™s one thing Andy Weir canโ€™t be critiqued on then itโ€™s not fully justifying all of the science. I think the film on the other hand can be hard to follow for someone who has neither read the book nor has a scientific background. Itโ€™s just hard to monologue about gravitational forces and relativistic speeds on screen.

Damn, that actually sounds like a genuinely nice experience. I'd recommend books, and a battery pack or two (not sure if there's electricity available), a blanket (unless you got a sleeping cabin) and comfortable clothes.

This 4, 2 literary and programming tradition, which Douglas Adams drew attention to, is interesting. Huge refactor today, moved from sync SQLite to Worker based, touched 88 files, pre-#AInotesfollow it would have taken a week or so, finished now in ~1:30h. And I wouldnโ€™t have the confidence I have now that it went correct. It went well, though a bug or two might surface, weโ€™ll see.

SQLite is embedded in the main thread same as the HTTP server. I noticed some requests dropping and because the queries have become more complex I figured it has to do with SQLite blocking for too much time. Moving it to a Worker makes the DB asynchronous and bypass this problem.
