Been working on an old mastodon hosting project I tried to start a few years ago, with a focus on privacy. This is the first big project I've tried to come back to with the help of coding agents and find it invigorating, and gives me the confidence to actually finish the project. Who knows if it will ever make a dollar, but it sure is fun to watch my ideas come to life.

Testing this quiet corner of the web. I collect small notes about everyday tools �� file formats, tiny utilities, offline workflows. First post is just a hello; longer notes will follow once I settle in. Plain text feels good after years of heavy editors.

It seems this year is when big budget LLM players overtake independent academic mathematicians, in speed at least. The Jacobian conjecture, a lot of Erdos problems, now even the Navier Stokes millenium problem. Solved due to new model releases, all within this summer.

in math it can definitely prove statements that havent been proven before. I dont think thats the big thing though since it also writes sentences nobody has ever written before and in software it can write programs that havent been written before. Its just that the speed and scalability that has overtaken human mathematicians and programmers

Heya folks!

I have a toddler. I come home from work, cook, feed, clean, wash up. We read stories and play. I put him to bed. Then I put something on the television and my wife and I scroll on our phones until she goes to bed. I am not so careless with the little free time I have. I continue to scroll until about 1 am. The next morning I do it again. On the weekends, I get to drink wine.

I prefer to drink wine at night and read an eBook or watch when something good comes up on streaming media. Can’t always get what I prefer and that is life.

Same. And on Monday, I look back and wonder how I ever got to fit five or six things in one weekend, and now one or two things fill it up entirely. Love the little ones though, they're my world.

There's a really good one run by someone in the Netherlands. He forked the software and made a ton of improvements. I was on there six years ago. I wish I could remember the name.

If programming is the typing of characters into a text file, it is way worse. I think the key to learning is still doing it rather than reading it. If the question is about system design I think you can, but only if you curious and it becomes a problem that needs to be solved. Asking "What do you think" is one of my favorite questions to learn at the moment.

I do think there will be what were hard earned lessons about system design, code smell, designing data structures for the hardware you're running on, concurrency golden paths, etc., which are now with agentic dev even harder to learn and internalize. But also if you have an excellent teacher in the form of an actually-good model pair programming with you always, maybe not? Maybe a pair programming AI programming tutor would be a good Zed/vscode extension. Or product.

Using the internet these days is like pulling off an elaborate heist operation. Every time I successfully load a page I feel like I've "gotten away with something".
