i keep open all day - the 3d pauses when the tab is out of focus, so i just get a ton of music i like without wasting cpu/gpu, and occassionally switch to the tab and play a little or chat if anyone's there.

Thanks, I use a Kinesis Advantage 2 and it’s a big help. I’ve found avoiding holding down keys, with thumbs or otherwise, has been the biggest help.

Zed with vim bindings when I'm not using a terminal. Neovim when I am.

vim/neovim with vim keys everywhere else -- once you learn it text editing with any thing else feels slow

Team vim, it still works even in the worst internet connection. Saved my ass many times during emergencies.

Last year I wasn't feeling too good. I turned forty, waited for surgery, and was hurt by my own colleagues. So I dealt with things. Maybe not so well, but to the best of my ability. One of the consequences was that I got a bit heavy. My body changed, and I didn't feel like myself. It was a problem for future me. So now I am here with this little belly of mine. We're not enemies, but I decided it's time to part ways. So I count calories. Maybe not so well, but to the best of my ability.

Almost back to baseline now, after a few months. trigger warning, eating disorders: I sometimes forget to log what I eat in my app of course, but what is perhaps slightly nore disturbing is the fact that I sometimes log stuff and then forget to actually eat them. Some sort of Baudrillardian simulacrum of eating.

Trying to jump back into project work while my kids are still home before school starts on Wednesday 🫠

Any runners on here? I mostly consider myself a trail runner, but of course train on roads, too. Good for 1–2 races/year, more into running as a practice, a way to manage stress and stay fit.

5 min/km is pretty quick, as far as I'm concerned! My easy/forever pace is more like 8:30–9 min/mile right now.

Big holiday today in Greece, bells ringing, bands singing, people gathered in the village, eating, enjoying life and I'm spending it inside coding. I don't feel bad and I'm not , it's just that I'm a bit odd. I don't like these forced gatherings. Feel stressful.

Yeah it's happening to people. It's because the email contains a link and we don't have the reputation yet. Not sure what to do, have you tried reporting it as 'Not spam' in your client? Maybe if enough people do that it will fix. Gmail works ok.

Yup, I am moving them out of it. It might take a while, but eventually should be OK. All good, hopefully now with a password I will not have much use for them any more.

I always associate summer with the months June, July, August — thinking that end of August is end of summer — but no, 7th of August is actually summer midpoint, we’re in the middle now, not near the end.

I've been on a kick lately of trying to visualize the oscillating clock, and ultimately the effectively arbitrarily complex activity of a computer processor, as modern refinements of the line shaft factory of the 19th century. Of compute as being not much more than profoundly refined "work" delivered by the electrical grid into marvelously complex machines. Does that, as a metaphor at least, feel as important to you as it has to me of late? We spend so much time in a world abstracted.

I'm doing experiments with short attention-span students and code. Starting with python, and, oddly, now working in BASIC. As a C programmer of 40+ years, I find this aesthetically and pedagogically displeasing, but I am delighted to see them getting fully absorbed in writing 130 PRINT "You have been eaten by a bear!" : GOTO 900. Yes there is spaghetti, but it's their spaghetti and they seem to take delight in debugging it. Python will come later.
