I think reading helps quite a bit, especially writing about what you’ve read, even to yourself, just so you can go through the process of having to explain something that you’re only recently familiar with. There’s something about that process that seems to be helpful, at least to me.

Same. The way I consume information influences how I think. Short form content makes my thinking fragmented without a clear structure. I feel that fragmented thinking won't lead to convincing writing. And I'm trying to regain some of that lost control.

The fear of being bad at it is the only thing holding you back. I experienced something like that with playing music with others. Perhaps you could learn to lay down your critical brain during the creation process and that good/bad isn't a useful distinction until later when you're editing your work.

What about the lack of density to paragraphs, the length of the sentences, or the confidence and determinism of their direction? Conviction with no limits. So reliably repetitive that you start seeing patterns as if you are looking and reading a record player with some scratches on it. Skips. Squeaks. Repeats. Yet. It gets the job done.

But if I am to read, discern meaning, analyze choices of diction and structure, consider the context both of the author and the audience, and finally derive value from the written word, then generative #ainotesfollow falls short on many levels. If the "job" is to produce something no one was ever intending to engage with, then we have a more fundamental question about the value of the job.

Maybe what I messaged read as a disagreement and mentioning that they get the job done was actually not about producing prose (of any quality). I wholeheartedly agreed and still agree with you. Getting the job done was more about producing output - be it some prose, images, videos, software, whatever. They do generate output. It is not to say that the output is meaningful or meaningless. Some souls do enjoy it. Some others - don’t. I did start with a question though.

Hi, yes, I develop ari. I'm so glad it's proven useful for you! Any feature requests or changes you'd like to see? I'm curious what bits of ari have made it easier for you to explore data, too. UI or #dataviznotesfollow additions keep tempting me, but I haven't settled on what I want there. If you have thoughts on that front, I welcome them.

The two main things I use are the duckdb support and of course the built-in resty client. Not needing to shell out to curl just makes life easier. I should probably add that I’m mainly prototyping and explore things that later eventually will be developed further by others in our organization, so using array langs where I don’t need to type a lot is a big plus for me:) I’ll let you know if I need anything!

Thanks, that’s helpful. Those are the two things I use the most, too. One development tool I use frequently is the util.ac function (for “auto-complete”) that takes a glob pattern and returns all the globals whose names match. I didn’t want to make people have to define or update their Goal lib path, so in recent versions of ari I’ve been packaging all of the Goal libs and ari's into a libs FS that you can use with import.
