    Markdown tables and lists, code with syntax highlighting and execution, LaTeX, maps, polls, quizzes, todos, previews, drafts, and an embedded write form give every note the shape it needs.

    Thread trees, smarter collapsing, anchored replies, backlinks, thread locks, and contextual back links make even long conversations easy to enter and leave.

I tried Omarchy to explore Hyprland, Waybar, and similar tools. I'd seen them in beautifully riced tiling desktops and wanted to experience that myself. Mainly, I wanted an opinionated, different desktop experience to break from my usual setup. Next time I reinstall, I'll probably take my custom Hyprland and Waybar configs and move to a Debian/Ubuntu-based system. Have you had the opportunity yet to play around with Omarchy?

I absolutely love #nixosnotesenter to follow for fact you can just rebuild into a clean state at any moment. I also share configs between 2 linux devices and 2 mac devices. Initially started with hyprland, but eventually switched to kde plasma. Nixos without LLM's would have been a pain tho, so would definitely recommend using one.

I've been leaning hard on NixOS in my latest attempt at a linux desktop box and have been really enjoying it. LLMs definitely help as there's a tremendous amount of information you need to use it effectively, I feel. I also started with Hyprland but then moved to Niri and have really enjoyed it.

I'm almost always listening to music when I'm doing heads-down work. Typically ambient, minimal house, jazz, sometimes classical. Vocals or complicated instrumentation makes it hard for me to focus.

write. and be honest about your own skills. humble yourself, and just keep doing it. you will improve, and its going to feel good in a whole other way than all those things you seem naturally good at. this was my journey with dance, i started late. its gotten me a healthier relationship with myself and the standards i set for myself. if you just want to be good at writing, but dont write, you dont want to write.

Who are you writing for? If for yourself, who cares - write. Do it in a place/tool that allows you to edit/rewrite some parts. In the future you can re-clarify, or if you get better, you can improve them. Focus on what you enjoy to write and write away.

I think reading helps quite a bit, especially writing about what you’ve read, even to yourself, just so you can go through the process of having to explain something that you’re only recently familiar with. There’s something about that process that seems to be helpful, at least to me.

Same. The way I consume information influences how I think. Short form content makes my thinking fragmented without a clear structure. I feel that fragmented thinking won't lead to convincing writing. And I'm trying to regain some of that lost control.

Catastrophic interference is also a favorite Wikipedia page and concept. The thing is, it doesn’t only happen to artificial neural networks, I’ve had it happen to me a few times. Especially with pin numbers, newer pins overwriting old ones and I’m always scared when I’m having hard time remembering something that this catastrophic interference applied and now the information is gone from my brain.

When I write I just add html files to the swiley.net folder in public.swiley.net. Sometimes I syndicate elsewhere (I was doing Substack for a while before Notes took over.)
