Do you code in silence or do you listen to music? If so, what kind of music do you prefer? Personally, I prefer Synthwave, vaporwave or the occasional country.
Occasionally silence if I forget to turn on music. Otherwise, death grips and a curated EDM playlist are on rotate. It keeps me moving fast. But also Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians albums go hard for long session, distraction-free music
Often silence, for me. I could create a (narrow) bell curve of problems where I listen to music. If I'm doing light enough work then I don't tend to listen to music, probably just out of habit - but as I approach problems of a certain complexity then I do prefer music. I just find that complexity band is narrow and past it I need to turn off the music.
I would like to widen my music band. My preference is usually ambient - I like Gaussian curve and Hiroshi Yoshimura
I really like this minimal approach, I wish the maintainer great success with textlog.
whatever that may look like to them :)
I will make sure to check in occasionally.
Huge refactor today, moved from sync SQLite to Worker based, touched 88 files, pre-#AInotesfollow it would have taken a week or so, finished now in ~1:30h. And I wouldnโt have the confidence I have now that it went correct. It went well, though a bug or two might surface, weโll see.
SQLite is embedded in the main thread same as the HTTP server. I noticed some requests dropping and because the queries have become more complex I figured it has to do with SQLite blocking for too much time. Moving it to a Worker makes the DB asynchronous and bypass this problem.
Last year I wasn't feeling too good.
I turned forty, waited for surgery, and was hurt by my own colleagues. So I dealt with things. Maybe not so well, but to the best of my ability.
One of the consequences was that I got a bit heavy. My body changed, and I didn't feel like myself. It was a problem for future me. So now I am here with this little belly of mine. We're not enemies, but I decided it's time to part ways.
So I count calories. Maybe not so well, but to the best of my ability.
Thank you! Almost back to baseline now, after a few months.
trigger warning, eating disorders:
I sometimes forget to log what I eat in my app of course, but what is perhaps slightly nore disturbing is the fact that I sometimes log stuff and then forget to actually eat them. Some sort of Baudrillardian simulacrum of eating.
Built a couple lambdas today to send account verification and onboarding drip emails for folks who sign up for my app but donโt make it all the way through the onboarding flow. Pretty cool to be able to quickly bang out self-contained infra for this instead of having to pay some SaaS vendor.
Somehow, I can't work in the mornings. Going to the office earlier just makes longer the "warmup period", this is, the period I stare the computer's screen reading stuff that is completely unrelated to my work. #ASDnotesfollow
It was only yesterday that I clicked on a Translate button to read a Japanese post. Today I see a Chinese post with English translation right below. Beautiful stuff.
Still in Quebec City, which has a pretty sizable street population once you come down from the hill where the tour groups go. We had to basically step over some guys sharing a glass pipe on the only stairs up the hill yesterday; I have teenagers so this bothered me.
Later, my youngest and I were talking and he says "why don't the police do something about that?"
He's showing me the first season of Mob Psycho, so I say
You know how Mob's little brother Ritsu wants to clean up the school so there are no people who will bully Mob, and so he allies with the power hungry student council president and frames all the bullies to get them expelled and the whole situation eventually becomes really corrupt and authoritarian and Ritsu feels to blame even though he started out with good intentions? Life is really like that...
And so my guess is that Quebec is in the portion of the cycle that's reacting to harsh and unfair policing of the past. Someday a mayoral candidate will get elected on the promise of cleaning it all up and the cycle will begin again.
Anyway Mob Psycho is a good show.
it's unfortunate these kinds of obvious non-starters for a functional society can only ever be discussed on both extremes of the political spectrum. It shouldn't be a question that degeneracy has no place in public settings.
I sit in meetings all day long, I roll my eyes and die a bit and synergize and circle back

no need to rush:

don't need to work
just synergize and circle back

ooh maybe I revive hallucinate.site and add this feature but instead of being able to modify everything it would be limited to adding features to the game/world. And itโs the perfect domain, a site thatโs been entirely mostly hallucinated.
Anthropic uses token billing for Claude Tag. But itโs different from CC - itโs an AI Colleague, so Iโm asking PM and EM to talk to it instead of to me - accountability switches.
No, Claude Tagโs PRs are my teamโs. Slop PRs come from outside of the team.
Anyways, dozens PRs per day is draining energy. Donโt want to review anything anymore.
looking at the German public railway system (DB), I always wonder if the stereotypes of timeliness and precision were ever actually true. Surely someone must've figured out by now how off they are? These trains are always late and / or broken.
