I like this, it feels like Reddit before what it is now, but I feel like it wonโt be long until the internet destroys this place. Until then Iโm happy to be here.
It's really sad that this is such a common sentiment whenever there's a nice online community nowadays. Guess most of us have been burnt enough times by now
My favorite part of classic reddit was the use of elaborate hacks to circumvent the restrictions on custom subreddit CSS. E.g. animated gifs weren't allowed, so people made filmstrip sprites with stepwise animation in such a way as to look exactly the same.
I have a toddler.
I come home from work, cook, feed, clean, wash up. We read stories and play. I put him to bed.
Then I put something on the television and my wife and I scroll on our phones until she goes to bed.
I am not so careless with the little free time I have.
I continue to scroll until about 1 am.
The next morning I do it again.
On the weekends, I get to drink wine.
I prefer to drink wine at night and read an eBook or watch when something good comes up on streaming media.
Canโt always get what I prefer and that is life.
Same. And on Monday, I look back and wonder how I ever got to fit five or six things in one weekend, and now one or two things fill it up entirely.
Love the little ones though, they're my world.
ouhh bet thats nice. im rocking some 50โฌ aliexpress print/pcb that i put some old switches/caps onto. legitimately impressed, best keyboard i ever used, never going back to traditional kbs.
Someone can create enormous value while their manager controls the narrative around that value. Conversely, a manager can conceal structural problems because the people capable of exposing them depend on that same manager for evaluation and promotion
'wade in the water.' isn't this the challenge of being 'ahead'? so many of us are waist deep in the same sea, it's hard to see what's in front of us vs. what's behind us. then we see the yacht boys sail by with their new masters, splashing us in their wake. then we grumble amongs

I subscribe to the Tony Stark school of engineering. "Sometimes you have to run before you walk." Earlier this year, I built my own static site generator. I hate literally every static site generator out there (not joking). get-taxus.org
When I write I just add html files to the swiley.net folder in public.swiley.net. Sometimes I syndicate elsewhere (I was doing Substack for a while before Notes took over.)
Routines in Claude Desktop create Claude Code sessions, so hourly routine litters in iPhone' Claude.app Code tab. Screw it, built my local version of AWS StepFunctions - Stepper - and run skills as state machines there.
they too have every incentive to exaggerate because they are selling safety and/or books on the topic. I donโt believe we wonโt see it coming. Any issues that will manifest will be very visible and weโll have plenty of time to mitigate their impact.
i dont think its all talk, these are smart people that have been in ai since the 2000s, and they raise good points. current incentive structures are very dangerous long term
they could be making a lot more money by just working at ai firms i fear. the thing that got me worried the hacking incidents lately, huggingface etc.
if the capabilities consistently outspeed the development of safety measures, and if the private arms race logic continues, i dont think this is a good spot to be in long term
hot take: "consumer #ainotesenter to follow " doesn't exist. at most it's just better search, but the ai assistants like grokbot or now instinct aren't ever going to be big. new devices and personal agents are DOA

Frustrated with my phone usage again tonight, I uninstalled several pointless and time-consuming apps. Itโs a cycle I repeat every few months.
During this cycle, I wasted a lot of time on one of those puzzle-matching games.
I'm considering switching to Ubuntu Touch at this point

Say more. I've been using it this year "at scale" and it sucks in the way that everything sucks when the whole company starts using it for everything. I haven't used Ansible in over a decade, but am curious what you like about it better.
Ansible just melds with my way of thinking better. I have a really hard time wrapping my head around nested loops in HCL and the overall "ugliness" of the language. Plus, I kind of like being in control of the order things are created.

With deep respect we remember King Harald of Norway who passed away in the early hours of this morning. May his memory rest in peace. Our thoughts are with those who have lost a husband, those who have lost a father and father-in-law, children who have lost a grandfather. And an entire country that has lost a king. May God strengthen those who follow. #norwaynotesenter to follow#kingharaldnotesenter to follow
Inspired by two projects of github:schildep I start to explore what can be expressed in Lean and make coding agents implement and prove the implementation at the same time.
Same. I really wish this platform would last a long time... I've seen so many cool initiatives get posted on HN, only to be taken offline a few months later.
I've been working with physical AI - Letting LLMs control robots in a warehouse to collaborate and collectively come up with a physically correct solution to carry out a natural language intent. We had to study the reactive nature of agents, nudges they required, etc.
haha that's a coincidence. Site looks awesome. The moving away from ROS2 part is so true. One of our main potential customers for physical AI solutions (a telecom provider in JP) communicated the need for agents to be able to pick up controls from any vendor
I apologize if that sounded obvious/non-obvious/amateurish haha. I was an intern and worked more on the agentic side of things, it was just a non-primary experiment
I've written a small persistent agent wrapper for agent.py. I'm impressed with how well it works. I feel like a CEO issuing global memos to all my agents after reading their status reports.

In China, I am practically independent of the government; I don't participate in any activities based on my status, such as formal work or online shopping.
