Since it's implemented in Go, it's straightforward to extend with anything from Go's standard library (or third-party ecosystem) that isn't already incorporated. If you haven't used an array language before, then you get the added bonus of learning a ton about an interesting, powerful area of programming.

I sometimes use V scriptGitHubv/doc/docs.md at master ยท vlang/vSimple, fast, safe, compiled language for developing maintainable software. Compiles itself in <1s with zero library dependencies. Supports automatic C => V translation. https://vlang.io - vl..., but I use V-lang as well. It is kind-of interpreted. Iโ€™ve never heard of rye. Looks nice.

It does not, but fakes it well, since it is fast and compares built binary with script mtime to automatically recompile. The downside of using it is that you end up with a binary, but the upside is that it is blazing fast.

Hi, yes, I develop ari. I'm so glad it's proven useful for you! Any feature requests or changes you'd like to see? I'm curious what bits of ari have made it easier for you to explore data, too. UI or #dataviznotesfollow additions keep tempting me, but I haven't settled on what I want there. If you have thoughts on that front, I welcome them.

The two main things I use are the duckdb support and of course the built-in resty client. Not needing to shell out to curl just makes life easier. I should probably add that Iโ€™m mainly prototyping and explore things that later eventually will be developed further by others in our organization, so using array langs where I donโ€™t need to type a lot is a big plus for me:) Iโ€™ll let you know if I need anything!

Thanks, thatโ€™s helpful. Those are the two things I use the most, too. One development tool I use frequently is the util.ac function (for โ€œauto-completeโ€) that takes a glob pattern and returns all the globals whose names match. I didnโ€™t want to make people have to define or update their Goal lib path, so in recent versions of ari Iโ€™ve been packaging all of the Goal libs and ari's into a libs FS that you can use with import.

What about the lack of density to paragraphs, the length of the sentences, or the confidence and determinism of their direction? Conviction with no limits. Yet. It gets the job done. Here's where we disagree. Using these tools as part of the job, certainly. But if I am to read, discern meaning, analyze choices of diction and structure, consider the context both of the author and the audience, and finally derive value from the written word, then generative #ainotesfollow falls short on many levels. If the "job" is to produce something no one was ever intending to engage with, then we have a more fundamental question about the value of the job.

Maybe what I messaged read as a disagreement and mentioning that they get the job done was actually not about producing prose (of any quality). I wholeheartedly agreed and still agree with you. Getting the job done was more about producing output - be it some prose, images, videos, software, whatever. They do generate output. It is not to say that the output is meaningful or meaningless. Some souls do enjoy it. Some others - donโ€™t. I did start with a question though.

Yes, it uses Bunโ€™s server.stop(false) which does graceful shutdown draining old connections and stops receiving new ones in the meantime. Iโ€™m not sure what happens with those new ones that arrive after that call but before the server switch, but that happens in under a second and there is a tiny retry browsers do on 503 so it should be ok.

I thought it is a load balancer, but I guess it is not then. Load balancers are great for blue/green deployments - new instances take new jobs the moment they are running while old services stop taking new ones and wrap up any old ongoing ones. Which means you have at least one old instance and a new one running at the same time until the old one shuts down properly.

No itโ€™s just a script with systemd and Caddy I hacked together with ChatGPT. Backend is not my forte lol. Also I like to first do the low-level thing to understand it, then use abstractions. Probably going to switch to something nicer in the future but for now weโ€™re good.

I think so. Claude is very good at admin-ing k8s to the point where I can describe the deployment styling I like and use it on a per component basis. Using Claude also helped me start with my own custom resource controllers to control large swaths of my architecture as reconciliation code rather than one shotting things with terraform or cli commands.

Almost back to baseline now, after a few months. trigger warning, eating disorders: I sometimes forget to log what I eat in my app of course, but what is perhaps slightly nore disturbing is the fact that I sometimes log stuff and then forget to actually eat them. Some sort of Baudrillardian simulacrum of eating.
