On a call with them in about an hour to learn details. Will share.

The meeting went well and all the topics we discussed were on a positive direction for ! Main point is we are now a legal entity and we can receive funds and —more importantly— grants, in order to keep this project alive and healthy. Our main goal is now growing the site.

We’ll start applying for grants the next days. ChatGPT says we have chances, but then again it sometimes says what u want to hear. We’re hopeful. It’s not over until we’ve exhausted all avenues. Regardless, it’s quite cheap rn to run the site, so we’ll stick around for a while.

Tweaked the algorithm again. Old posts seemed to linger too much time at the top making the tab worthless. Now old posts accelerate their decline by age, and recent discussions bubble up faster.

Perhaps controversial for , but now you can create multiple accounts under your account (aka personas) that you can use as regular accounts, each with their own profile. The same email is used and you can switch between them under .

To prevent abuse this is rate-limited to 2 new accounts per month.

I am honestly confused, what would you need multiple Accounts for that are not "entirely distinct" Can anyone tell me their use-case? maybe I just don't see it. ^C

Freedom of expression is one, perhaps you want to say things and not be associated with your "regular" account, that would maybe be seen by co-workers or potential employers. Another is you want to make a bot to post some stuff but not be seen as actually typed by you.

Different followings/ers as well. You could always do a new account with a new email to do that, so nothing is new here. It's just an easier way to make a different new account.

Turns out there is native popover API in recent browsers! So, yes, now it does that exactly.

It's kind of crazy what can be done natively in HTML these days!

Major on the / for desktop users, all handles and hashtags are now showing a popover on hover so you can quickly see the profile and hashtag information and follow them.

Also, tag pages now have a tab followers so you can see the people following a tag you like and follow them.

Something that came up recently was a css only implementation of showing when we have hit the character max count before you click submit. Unlike the JavaScript implementation which can show you a dynamic count, this cannot but it is cool and is lightweight

Thanks! I used the auto-grow field-sizing trick! Works well. The other trick has issues with prefilled textareas, so it fails in bio textarea and when editing a post/preview/draft. Also I was talking about counting the characters or showing some sort of progress bar, that’s impossible as well. The <textarea> maxlength hard limit is fine. With the new 500 char limit you’d hardly notice it as well.

Noticing how very few fix: in the textlog repo. Codex is a much better developer than me. I’m now a project manager I guess.

The mobile UI needs some work still. Much better than before, but not cigar. Writing a new post, or reply zoom it disproportionally, and the “hot”, “for you” are all piled up. Same for following, follows, etc.

Pagination is now in all feeds, and the pagination's current page button is a actually a number input that so you can quickly type or use the arrow up/down keys or mouse wheel to jump to deep page.

If you haven't seen them, there are now back links in post and reply pages, making it easy to jump to your previous location, without using the browser's back button which sometimes has issues (after submitting forms etc.).

Saw it, and loved it! I was about to propose it, as the mobile app has it. It is especially useful for when a thread goes long, to go back where it started.
