Getters and setters for everything. Certainly, if you want an object to be doing more than just getting and setting a value right now, get them in there! Planning to add functionality later without breaking code? Stop it! That should break code! If I'm consuming a library and have been using this setter method for 2 years, I don't want it to suddenly introduce brand new validation, caching, or logging behavior!

Support everywhere (in every way) was key to me starting to use C again. It's nice to not have to worry about the language you use being left out somewhere, a non-starter somewhere else and having to mentally translate it to something else (Zig/Odin in a debugger -> C).

I should have said past 4 projects went viral but the other one I did a lot of coding too, so wasn’t entirely “AI slop”. In all cases though, I made something I wanted to see. It just happened to resonate with others. Still, none of them extremely popular yet. All <500 users.

TOML is a better format for configuration files IMO, if not for many reasons, primarily because TOML accepts comments. However, one annoying thing for TOML was the lack of schema, and the reliance on JSON Schema for that. Which I decided to tackle years ago when I started the TOML Schema project. In the past few months I leveraged code agents to take to the finish line and got something compelling: tomlschema.org

Exactly! The schema also enables tools to have rich editors to config files without having to know about the config file format upfront. There is an editor for TOML Schema as an example, on the website.

My hometown is a popular tourist destination and we no longer can rent apartments on a year-basis. Everything is AirBnB and they only rent them to locals pretty expensive and off-season. As a local I can't live in my hometown anymore, so I'm staying in the mountains.

I've been leaning hard on NixOS in my latest attempt at a linux desktop box and have been really enjoying it. LLMs definitely help as there's a tremendous amount of information you need to use it effectively, I feel. I also started with Hyprland but then moved to Niri and have really enjoyed it.

I spent some time looking into what Omarchy has become since I installed it on my system, and I don’t think I like it anymore. ^^ Using it mainly to open a browser or applications like VS Code… well, I can do that with any OS. You can steer software development by running commands that issue reasonably general prompts. /plan, /code, /review I created this because I find it very useful to have different models/ perform each of those tasks in isolated sessions. Catastrophic interference is also a favorite Wikipedia page and concept. The thing is, it doesn’t only happen to artificial neural networks, I’ve had it happen to me a few times. Especially with pin numbers, newer pins overwriting old ones and I’m always scared when I’m having hard time remembering something that this catastrophic interference applied and now the information is gone from my brain.

Determine what matters most and make a list of the no more than 7 things. Do one thing well at a time, top down. Reprioritise as you learn more. Notes:
  1. If you half-arse a task and decide that'll do, it's evidence it wasn't the right priority. Learn.
  2. Any sort of productivity, multi-tasking, app, solution type thing is a scam or a money grab and isn't needed.
  3. People tend to remember 7 things well, but struggle with longer lists and particularly fail to remember things in the middle.

The slowness is intentional. I wanted to make it look more like a user doing it than a script so it doesn't set off any alarms. I have it waiting from 1 to 3 seconds between clicks to slow it down. :-) So far so good!

I had a similar fear using career-ops, but I use it as a note taking app/tracker/ and cover letter spot while I apply at very low volumes. I can see how much can go wrong it you were to shotgun a billion apps through it though.

You have #kakounenotesfollow, there is no need. I tried Emacs out a while ago to see whether it could replace Kakoune (I wanted to draw arbitrary stuff like images, 3D views, etc., in the editor) but honestly, Kakoune makes everything so easy to integrate that it was hard for it to compete.
