This website #tlognotesfollow is what William Gibson would call an "interstitial zone" - it can afford to be easy and open because it's so obscure. If it starts throwing up Cloudflare captchas we'll know its days are numbered...

There is little-to-no incentive, even if we grow, to spam/attack the site with irrelevant content in order for us to become defensive like that. That's where I'm placing my bets. In its quiet character.

Password is way more convenient IMO. Takes 3 seconds to log in rather than 60 (I timed it: open webmail, log in, open textlog, submit email, wait for email, click link) and I have to do this every time because the browser is set to clear all cookies on exit
Password login implemented, can be enabled from /account/securitytextlogenterA quieter place for your thoughts. cc @procyonprofilefollowlate is the hour in which this conjuror chooses to appear @fastidiousprofilefollow"Beware those that would deny you access to information, for in their heart they dream themselves your master." โ€” Sid Meyers @superprofilefollow @chenxiangprofilefollow #featurenotesfollow #tlognotesfollow

Found the use for it just now. At work I get my personal emails on my mobile device, but I am accessing textlog on the desktop. Getting a magic link on my mobile doesn't help me at all getting logged in on desktop. Enter the old, venerable, password.

Good catch! I've added yet another option, you can enter the six-digit code manually in the "Check your email" screen instead of the magic link. This should cover this case without the need to enable password.

Render Markdown isn't working (I am not logged in) while using the web version of the app (the only version I have played with).

Just tried logged in, using web, still the same, no Markdown rendering (looking at inline/block codes only). It doesnโ€™t render LaTeX either.

Idea, replace the โ€œFollowed youโ€ and โ€œReplied to youโ€ with minimal icons. That page has way too many lines. #metanotesfollow
The big thing is to gather enough test users, and establish an audience within the required metrics for Google to allow us to publish it even as a fully free app. But In the coming days I'll at least get it to the alpha stage, send out test invites so that its more official.

Maybe implementing a subset of Markdown would be a good thing. I am thinking about bold, italics, inline code, and code block, mostly. Oh, and links.

Links implemented! The styling parts, I'm not so sure, it will make the text look more busy, which will go against the minimalist aesthetic.

Maybe frontend clients can be left to implement more of these nice-to-haves to cater to specific audiences. That's also why I started building a flutter client for #tlognotesfollow .
I just saw that textlog has almost similar logo like termux. I happened to run these two side by side and then It came into my notice. But itโ€™s apt for it. Iโ€™ll try making some for it. #metanotesfollow

turns out there is accesskeyMDN Web Docsaccesskey HTML global attribute - HTML | MDNThe accesskey global attribute provides a hint for generating a keyboard shortcut for the current element. The attribute value must consist of a single printable character (which includes accented and other characters that can be generated by the keyboard). so for now โ€˜wโ€™ works for jumping right to โ€˜writeโ€™ and โ€˜pโ€™ for posting when youโ€™re there. Can add more if needed. They need modifier key(s) in front (Alt on Chrome, Control+Option on Safari), etc (theyโ€™re documented in the link above).
v0.0.5GitHubRelease v0.0.5 โ€” threads stop re-fetching themselves ยท Faultless/textlog_flutterEarly pre-release for testing on Android. Coming from v0.0.3 or earlier, or from the very first v0.0.4 upload? Those were signed with a debug key, so Android will refuse to install over them โ€” uni... now has session caching for replies and threads. Should be a lot more conservative on hitting those endpoints. #open_sourcenotesfollow #mobilenotesfollow #tlognotesfollow
Another thing I'm noticing is the firehose endpoint is reconnecting every few seconds instead of being kept alive. Is this a limitation of some sort of the EventSource client you're using? Because it might omit some messages, the reconnection doesn't do any replay.
